When the fuck are they gonna stop? I mean, it was fun in God of war but now its just idiotic. You need to mash buttons for everything, its omnipresent. In every fuckin action game besides DMC 4 and NG 2 as far as I know. what do you think

QTEs are good in God of War but not much else. I hate them because if you fuck up the whole thing starts over. It would be easier if they just let us do it our selves.

At the moment they're a little overused. I like them in RE4 the best personally, as they pop up as an extension to gameplay, rather than as something dominant. They are the worst in Drakes Fortune and God of War, where in DF they are unexpected and in GoW where they are too prevalent.

QTE are good in situations where instant death is not involved. Press x to dodge = good, press x to not die = bad. I like the idea of the first fight against Krauser, if they had just included your life bar instead of killing you when you failed, that would have been a great fight.

I remember playing Shemnue. (aaaah the good days). Then RE4 took the idea of QTE, massive hit, boom, everyone want a share of the pie.

QTE work in some games. Namco thought that it would be a good idea that QTE should be in Soul Calibur 3. I now refuse to play the *story* mode.

Being a PC gamer.
I never had a QTE experience.
Is it only exclusive to console gamers?

But seeing videos on it.
It seems really useless and unnecessary.

Phew.. I'm sure someone, at some point, implemented QTEs in an interesting and neato way but lately it's all just been poo. Why in the world are there so many of them in Soul Calibur 3?! They're everywhere..

I think more harm will come from them than good. Let's make 'em extinct.

QTE do work sometimes, but just because it works in one or two games doesn't mean it should suddenly become a standard.

I liked them in Resident Evil 4 because if you died and had to re-do that part you could skip the cutscene til about 3-4 seconds before the QTE

So true. Why does this always happen--in all forms of media? 'Hey, that idea is successful... REPLICATE!.. BADLY!' But who's fault is it really? It's partly the consumer, of course, or this trend would have died long ago.

You can go ahead and put quick time events in cut scenes, just a few rules.

1. Do not put them in cut scenes where something big was just revealed, we'll be too thrown off by the news to be on our guard.
2. Put them in a lot of cut scenes, not just one. If you put them in only one or two there's no way we can be ready for them.
3. Only punish us slightly for screwing them up, don't kill us instantly and make us watch the stupid cut scene again.

An example of a good time to put them in would be right before a fight. Make it obvious we're going to have to fight a guy, then start it off with the guy throwing a boulder at you and you have to press x to dodge. If you miss it then you start off the fight with just a little of your health gone. No big deal, but definitely a handicap.

HAHA, I love it when people rip off rhetoricals from Yahtzee.

My opinion is that I don't care what Croshaw says, I love Quicktime events, it giuves a cinematoc feel tot the game as long as they are not too hard.

True. Developers will only replicate if the consumer reacts, and seeing the trend, obviously it seems to them that overal we like it.

What really annoys me though is when people just straight replicate something, but don't try to improve it, or make it unique to their game/situation. Straight replication won't work because if it was so successful to warrant replication, then it was tailor made, specific to that game situation. That's what made it so good in the first place. Carbon copies won't fit anywhere.
