The Hateful Eight was his 8th.

Some people are hoping his last 2 will be a Kill Bill 3.

But I am hoping for a more comtemporary crime film on the level of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown.
I'm fine with almost anything. I like how that didn't stick with those kinds of movies, even though I found RD and JB pretty good and PF great. Kill Bill V3 would be anticlimactic, though. It works fine as two movies.

Plus hasnt Miyazaki retired like, a million times?
I didn't pay attention to Miyazaki during his earlier retirement claims, but I believe him. I would be surprised if he made another movie at his age and after saying how he doesn't have the energy anymore.
I just think its smarter to say they are just taking a break, or taking it easy or something. Maybe suggest not to be expectantly waiting for the next thing from them, but it is short-sighted to say they are just done forever. I mean, I actually always expect the current Tarantino film to be the last really. I was surprised when Inglorious Basterds came out. I was surprised when Django Unchained came out, and I was definatly surprised when Hateful Eight (a film he said would NEVER get made) came out.

I just assumed he was always the person who says "I will make something when I feel like it". But what if he feels like it after he is supposedly done? I mean, Im sure he will just make it anyways, but why make people go "But didnt you say you retired?"
Maybe he feels accomplished. Maybe it's partly his egoism. "Hey everybody, pay attention to this dramatic announcement about me." I don't completely believe it either.
Maybe. Im just a creative minded person. I dont make anything people care about though, atleast not currently. But if I did, I dont imagine myself telling people I will never do whatever creative thing I enjoy ever again. Id want to go out like David Bowie. Not the cancer part, but the doing what I love until the day I die.

I'm weird among my friends. I can't stand the films that Tarantino has directed but love the ones where he is just the writer or actor.

I mean, he said that, like, half a decade ago, right? Or was that just that he'd retire at 60, and we looked at the rate at which he released films and thought that he probably would get to about 10?

Clarification: Yeah, it was that. He did say he'd retire after 10 in 2014 [http://deadline.com/2014/11/quentin-tarantino-retirement-hateful-eight-international-release-1201280583/], though.
I have my doubts. He has mainstream Director name draw like few others in industry right now. Even if he stops Directing, he'll staple his name on as Executive Producer for an equity deal on some film or another and continue to make his way to the bank as they use his name as an audience magnet in the marketing.

Or he could go full recluse. Who knows. I don't think he'll be out of the game. Heck, even if he just showed up for cameo's in other people's films he could make more than enough money for low effort now.

Yeah, he already does that. "Quentin Tarantino Presents" has been a thing since the DVD releases of Hero and Iron Monkey. And for a couple of early Eli Roth movies. And Hell Ride, for some reason.

I could definitely see him retiring from directing, though.

Possible. It is hard work to do it right and there is always the draw of 'quit while you're ahead' to consider.

He'd be nuts to not milk money out of his name afterwards though. He's got a cult following.
