After finally realizing every time i logged into wow i would just sit there trying to find something to do after clearing all of the content thus far, I cancelled my subscription.

Though now I'm really craving a good mmo or rpg to sink my teeth into, any of you guys got any suggestions?

Bearing in mind that I'm in no way a hardcore MMORPG player, I really enjoyed Mabinogi. The combat is much more active than in other MMO's I've played. Rather than simple point-and-click, it often plays out like a high-speed game of scissors-paper-rock, with you needing to read your opponent's moves to maximize your damage.

The game's visual style might wear on your nerves, though, if you don't have much tolerance for the sort of look it's going for. The game's visual style draws heavily from manga and anime, which while stylish in some aspects, might come off simply as generic or annoying to some.

City of Heroes/Villains. It's usually cheap, about 20-30 bucks for the whole game (including expansions because they merged it all into one game) and it's probably the best Superhero/Supervillain MMO on the market. Well, there's also a "real" expansion coming out soon, for which you'd have to pay. But it adds a lot of cool shit.

It's about the same age as WoW, maybe a bit younger, and it has awesome customizable powers and costumes, and about a year ago they added Architect system which allows you to create your own missions and stuff. Fully customizable. It's like creating an instance in WoW, except you can actually do it.

There are no armor/weapons except whatever you pick for your power sets and your costume, which you can change (the costume, not the main powersets) easily. So you will not be stuck wearing ugly combination of gear in that game, ever. You improve powers through enhancements, and there are multiple sets of those, and they have no visual impact.

Oh yeah, the PvP is somewhat limited, but overall the game is awesome. A lot of customization, probably the most customizable MMO on the market. And the graphics aren't bad, if you have really new computer there's an option to make them look even better (because, yeah, the game was made in like 2005).

Oh ya, and subscription fee is the same as WoW.

I enjoyed playing Warhammer Online, though it got a bit meh after a while. World of Warcraft is the King of MMORPG's for a reason.

I'd get Guild wars 2 when it comes out. The first was really fun and I spent a hell of a lot of time on it when I first got it. Have a look at the trailers and stuff.

Maplestory tends to take a good while to complete, what with having 200 levels, and a hell of a lot of different classes to play. That and they're improving on the content constantly.

I am waiting for TOR to come out and then I might get back into MMOs, I haven't played any subscription based MMOs since WOW only free ones. Most of them were boring after awhile so my only advice would be maybe wait for Cataclysm, unless you are done with WOW.

And yeah i know its hard to find a good mmo after WoW, though i'm not really looking for a wow-killer exactly just something new as i feel i've overplayed wow haha. Cheers for the suggestions guys :)

You might consider looking into Dungeons and Dragons Online - since it went free to play it will certainly be easy on your wallet initially. I've been finding it pretty fun recently, but then again I'm a gigantic nerd who loves D&D (tonight's my pen & paper gaming session, glee), so your mileage might vary.

But hey, it's free!

Aion is good, they just released a patch giving more exp from quests and increasing drop rates too, so it's less grindy than it was. Although, levelling from 40-50 is still a big "what the fuck", and there are still money sinks all over the place. But, for some reason, I like that. The legendary items are legendary, and it's fucking satisfying when you get one, and the game makes you work hard to get them. Although, it does take a while to do anything, which you might find annoying, so I'd suggest Guild Wars. You don't pay monthly, it has a lot of content and a lot to do, and the PvP is dope.

You might have to wait till ToR or FFXIV comes out for a chance at something close to WoW for fun. Unless something about the core of the game is what made you quit.

SWG before they ruined it (literally, that isn't exaggerating, they changed the very core essence of the game) was the only thing i would have played over WoW. FFXIV looks like it has a shot. ToR looks.... bad... But i reserve judgment till after the beta so that's all i will say on that.

I have a site with a list of free and legal MMO's that would probably be awesome to me if i had never played WoW. Though they are all kinda hamburger compared to Steak at this point...

If you are going to play MMO's... just go back to WoW. If you play something else, you will just gravitate back to the big giant monster that is WoW at some point in time. At least that's what i've noticed when people "try" to play an MMO other than WoW. They just go back after a little while.

If you liked WoW before you cleared all the content, Lord of the Rings Online might be something for you, and that's also going free in a couple of months.

It's beautifully crafted, has fun PvP (though not much of it) and really captures the feeling of the LotR world. Especially the Shire is fantastic to just walk around in.

You can also wait for Star Wars: The Old Republic. That's looking up to be one helluvan MMO.

Polish and versatility. Nowadays, you can play whatever you like however you like.

Blizzard has given you a lot more freedom on how you can play WoW, from old-school 'uber hardcorez' to more lay-back casual style whilst still giving everyone access to all the content.

Nonsense, just try to get all the raiding achievements.

unfortunately you will probably be out of luck until Cataclysm, The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, or Final Fantasy XIV - All of which will start to trickle out next year. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Cataclysm land between Nov '10 - Jan '11.

They are good at what they do. They listen to the majority of fans whispering and ignore the minority of fan screaming. They take time with there work and are not afraid to push back deadlines to make sure they have a good product to give to their fans. They do good work.

If you don't like the game its cool. If you think another MMO is better that's cool to. If you hate all MMO's that's still cool.

The fact is WoW knows there fans and they try to please them the best they can, and it works.

Congratz on your quitting. Then again, it is sort of like quitting smoking and becoming an alcoholic.

On topic: You could wait for the new star wars MMO (coming out this year). And in what way do you judge an mmo or rpg to be "good"?
