Noah Bennett from Heroes telling the Haitian to "Hollow him out...take everything"

Something about the directness of that mixed with the line reading. It sends a wonderful chill down my spine.

good one!

- "Twikle, twikle, little star" since Dead Space

I also remember a couple from Mass Effect:

- "We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure [...] We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world [...] We are eternal. The pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything", Sovereing.

- "Organic governments impose consensus. From a single point of view in autocracies. By codifying the most broadly accepted average views in democracies", Legion

From Literature,

- "I will sweep away everything in all your land," says the Lord. "I will sweep away both people and animals alike. Even the birds of the air and the fish in the sea will die. I will reduce the wicked to heaps of rubble, along with the rest of humanity," says the LORD. "I will crush Judah and Jerusalem with my fist and destroy every last trace of their Baal worship. I will put an end to all the idolatrous priests, so that even the memory of them will disappear." (Zeph. 1:2-5)

- "And into that gate they shall enter, and in that house they shall dwell,
where there shall be no cloud nor sun,
no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light,
no noise nor silence, but one equal music,
no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession,
no foes nor friends, but one equal communion and identity,
no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity." John Donne, Sermon

His thoughts like a hundred moths, trapped in a lampshade; their wings banging and burning.. on through endless nights. forever awake he lies shaking and starving. Praying for somebody to turn off the light.

Born of a Broken man by Rage Against the Machine.

Not sure what he's talking about there. but the "forever awake he lies shaking and starving. Praying for somebody to turn off the light." often makes my hairs stand on end.

I've got a few:

"This is my story! It'll go the way I want it to, or I'll end it here!" - Tidus, Final Fantasy 10

"Everyone... Everyone has lost something precious. Everyone here has lost homes, dreams, and friends. Now, Sin is finally dead. Now, Spira is ours again. Working together, now we can make new homes for ourselves, and new dreams. Although I know the journey will be hard, we have lots of time. Together, we will rebuild Spira. The road is ahead of us, so let's start out today. Just, one more thing... the people and the friends that we have lost, or the dreams that have faded... Never forget them." - Yuna

"What must be defended is inevitably lost. You will know despair and emptiness, but remember, surrender to despair and you will be no more than a pathetic dog. Never cast away hope, and live on with pride." - Gabranth, Dissidia: Final Fantasy

"Day after day, night after night
Sweet Mother Mary looks for the light
Day after day, she's up on the cross
The father, the son, the souls that she lost" - Blood and Bourbon by SR-71

... and that leads me to my favourite quote:
'' we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender''
"We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France. We shall fight on the seas and oceans. We shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender."

I should have remembered that one.

Hmm. Kind of related to that quote and that video:

"The Halifax is the mainstay of our offensive bomber capability. Even supposing I think your idea has merit, how am I supposed to persuade the Air Ministry to lend you one?"
"You could try telling them I designed it. Do you think that might help?" - Barnes Wallace The Dambusters.

"Oh ..... shit." - the polygraph technician, Equilibrium.

"So Little Bill killed him for what we done. ... *swigs whiskey* ... *swigs whiskey* ... *swigs whiskey* ... " - William Munny, Unforgiven.

... and the rest of that scene [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SO5VO2ixWY], finishing with "You'd better not cut up nor otherwise harm no whore, or I'll come back and kill every one o' you sons of bitches."

"War has changed." That whole speech is awesome, but for me the best part is the music that goes with it.

Also: "Your drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!"

As I pass through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers, I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They taught us each in turn
That water would certainly wet us, as fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in uplift, vision and breadth of mind,
So we left them to teach the gorillas as we followed the march of mankind.

We moved as the spirit lifted. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the hopes that our world was built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the moon was Stilton, they denied that she even was Dutch;
They denied that wishes were horses; they denied that pigs had wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market, who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us, and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the devil you know."

On the first feminian sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbor and ended by loving his wife)
'Till our women had no more children, and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The wages of sin is death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all
By robbing selective Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work, you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled, and began to believe it was true
That all is not gold that glitters, and two and two make four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, so it was at the birth of man,
There are only four things certain since social progress began:
That the dog returns to his vomit, and the sow returns to her mire
And the burnt fool's bandaged finger goes wobbling back to the fire;

And after all this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing, and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as water will wet us, and as surely as fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

That gives me chills every time. Several other things already mentioned here also give me chills, like the ones from Lord of the Rings.

Kipling's good at that.

... and seven times never kill Man. [http://www.poetryloverspage.com/poets/kipling/law_of_jungle.html]

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,

Rikki-tikki saw the spectacle-mark on the back of it that looks exactly like the eye part of a hook-and-eye fastening. He was afraid for the minute; but it is impossible for a mongoose to stay frightened for any length of time, and though Rikki-tikki had never met a live cobra before, his mother had fed him on dead ones, and he knew that all a grown mongoose's business in life was to fight and eat snakes. Nag knew that too, and at the bottom of his cold heart he was afraid. [http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/usr/mongoose/www/rtt.html]

I love that whole scene. Such a great movie.

"The evidence before the court is incontravertible--there's no need for the jury to retire. In all my years of judging I have never heard before of someone more deserving of the full penalty of law. The way you made them suffer, your exquisite wife and mother, fills me with the urge to DEFECATE."

"Yeah, judge! SHIT ON 'IM!"

"Since, my friend, you have revealed your deepest fear, I sentence you to be exposed before your peers! TEAR DOWN THE WALL!"
Even just "TEAR DOWN THE WALL!" on its own is enough for me.

And in a similar vein:
"When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look, but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now--the child has grown, the dream is gone."

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever."
-1984

"I wonder if its like mountain climbers? You climb bigger and bigger mountains, and you know that one day one of them is going to be just that bit too steep. But you go on doing it, because it's so-oo good when you breathe the air up there. And you know you?ll die falling."
-Terry Pratchett (Going Postal)

"One of nature?s wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that?s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."
-Terry Pratchett (Unseen Academicals)

"I believe our future depends powerfully on how well we understand this Cosmos in which we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky."
