I have a few.

"In any controversy, the instant we feel anger, we have already ceased striving for truth and have begun striving for
ourselves." -Thomas Carlyle

"Nothing is so strong as gentleness and nothing is so gentle as real strength." -Ralph W. Sockman

"The world is not respectable; it is mortal, tormented, confused, deluded forever; but it is shot through with beauty, with
love, with glints of courage and laughter; and in these, the spirit blooms timidly, and struggles to the light amid the thorns." -George Santayana

"I believe what really happens in history is this: the old man is always wrong, and the young people are always wrong about what is wrong with him. The practical form it takes is this: that, while the old man may stand by some stupid custom, the young man always attacks it with some theory that turns out to be equally stupid."
-G. K. Chesterton
I want to post more G. K. Chesterton quotes because his stuff is pure gold, but I'll limit it to one.

And some Cowboy Bebop to wrap it up:

"Whatever happens, happens."
-Spike Spiegel

This is my main motto in life. It's also no coincidence that this happens to come from my favorite game of all time.

"For those that understand, no explanation is necessary; for those that don't, no explanation will ever be good enough."

"He covered his arrogance with his doubts, his ignorance with his ambition."

And one of my own: "Desire does not correlate to reality."

The one that really speaks to me is one said by one of my fellow drunk Injustice Leaguers.

"Taco... You know... I could sex you in my country!"

:'D

Makes me cry every time.

I read the Druss the legend books at an early age and his iron code has always stuck with me for some reason, impossible to live by but still one of my favorites, "Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil."

failing that practically anything Kamina says "listen up, Simon. Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me! Believe in the Kamina who believes in you!"

Who the hell do you think I am?!

Carl Sagan was good at this. For all that we suck right now, there remains the potential to improve, the hope that the Human Race will overcome the petty bitterness that blights our history.

There are a few good ones that I like, mostly from comics and literature.

"If there is nothing but what we make in this world, brothers...Then let us make good."
?Beta Ray Bill

"Being clever's a fine thing, but sometimes a boy just needs to get out of the house and meet some girls."
?Flex Mentallo

"You'd like to quantify me, Officer Starling. You're so ambitious, aren't you? Do you know what you look like to me, with your good bag and your cheap shoes? You look like a rube."
?Hannibal Lecter

"Maybe I am like that boy, or maybe you are. Maybe everyone is. Doing things you can't do, just because you can."
?Rin Tezuka

"I know where utopia lies. It is here. Where is the love, beauty and truth we seek but in our mind? The golden country forever new? The home of all hearts untouched by time and pain? Here. Waiting for us to grow up and recognize it and come home."
?Grant Morrison

?Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one?s own self.?
―Franz Kafka

"The writer's job is the job of the clown, the clown who also talks about sorrow"
― Kenzaburo Oe

While it's not nearly so spectacular as some of the quotes already in the thread, there's a line in Armitage the Third that always struck me.
"If humans don't want me, then why did they create me?"
And it started to resonate more and more as I found out my parents didn't accept me for my gender identity, and how much they love my younger brother because he got properly educated, whereas I had a stroke just at the end of high school and got massively waylaid.

To me the quotes that i think speak to me are some i have read in this thread and these are from the manga Berserk
"If you're always worried about crushing the ants beneath you...you won't be able to walk."

"It is my perception that a true friend never relies on another?s dream. A person with the potential to be my true friend must be able to find his reason for life without my help. And, he would have to put his heart and soul into protecting his dream. He would never hesitate to fight for his dream, even against me. For me, a true friend is one who stands equal on those terms."

"The sleep of reason produces monsters."

It's the title of this piece, by Francisco Goya (although I first became aware of it through the game Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason):

While not technically a 'quote' in the usual sense of the word, it sums up the basis of my philosophy, so shush.

J.K. Rowling has most of my favorites:

"Indifference and neglect often do much more damage than outright dislike."

"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."

And my favorite by Oscar Wilde: "Never love anybody who treats you like you're ordinary."

"Everything will be Ok in the End. If it's not Ok, it's not the End." - John Lennon.

"It does not matter how Slowly you go as long as you do not Stop." - Confucius.

"You have Brains in your Head. You have Feet in your Shoes. You can Steer yourself in any direction you Choose. You're on your Own, and you know what you Know. And you are the guy who'll decide Where to Go." - Dr. Seuss.

"If you could make God bleed, then people would cease to Believe in him." - Ivan Vanko, Iron Man 2. (Unless it comes from somewhere else instead?).

These are by far the most profound quotes that help create the backbone of all my philosophy in science and fervor in humanity. Both are by the well known Carl Sagan, a person who I've known since I was 7.

"It is well within our power to destroy our civilization and perhaps our species as well. If we capitulate to superstition, greed, or stupidity, we can plunge our world into a darkness deeper than the time between the collapse of classic civilization and the Italian Renaissance. But we are also capable of using our compassion and our intelligence, our technology and our wealth, to make abundant and meaningful life for every inhabitant on this planet, to enhance our enormously our understanding of the universe and to carry us to the stars."

"We wish to pursue the truth no matter where it leads. But to find the truth, we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact. The cosmos is full beyond measure of elegant truths, of exquisite interrelationships of the awesome machinery of nature."

There are plenty of other quotes that I like, but those are probably the most important. If you could journey into my head, these things would be displayed on large engraved stones that mark the entrance to the city of my mind.

Of honorable mention I always liked this one:

"Some things you see with your eyes. Others you see with your heart." - Little Foot's Mother.

I've thought about it, and there's this one quote I feel is very important:

"You know what? I want you all to look at me. I want you all to look at me, 'cause what I'm about to say to you is important. I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I want you all to know this, this goes out to everybody: you're not stupid. Okay? You're not stupid. Don't ever tell yourself that you are. You're important. What you have in your head may not mean a lot to a lot of people, but its' what makes you special. You are important. You mean something, and you're gonna go out there and do some wonderful things. But first and foremost... you're not stupid. You're not an idiot. Don't ever tell yourself that you are. And if nobody else ever tells you this, I will tell you this: I care about you."
-Justin Carmical

This might not seem like much considering what happened to the man who said this... but I like to think of it as something he wanted to tell people... and something he might have wished was told to him...

I have way too many so I have decided to put them in a spoiler:

Never Tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do, and let them surprise you with their ingenuity.- George S. Patton

God grant me the courage to not give up what I think is right even though I think it is hopeless.- Chester W. Nimitz

Hindsight is noticeably cleverer than foresight.- Also Nimitz

Strike Fast, Strike Hard, Strike Often.- William "Bull" Halsey

Any man who actually wants to be president is either crazy or an egomaniac.- President Dwight D. Eisenhower

And now for my views on Law enforcement.....expressed in a videogame of all places:

People accuse us of using excessive force because we put people in the wall every now and then....But we aren't looking for a fair fight. We have to win every time we turn our lights on or the public loses faith in our ability to protect them. And if you endanger the ungrateful masses we protect, we will come at you with everything we have.- F-8, Need for Speed: Rivals

Perception is reality. Law and order only exist as long as long as the public believes it. And today, they believe it less then yesterday. They see racers defying the laws without consequence. When the laws no longer have teeth, when they become 'polite suggestions', society breaks down. The public accuses us of intimidation. But the truth is, show of forces is preferable to use of force. And when show of force isn't enough to maintain order, sometimes you have to settle for the real thing.- F-8

The public ask us to defend them, sanctioning whatever violence it takes. They use terms like 'necessary force' to shelter themselves from the fact that they have sent us to beat, maim, and kill those who would do the same to them. Deep down, they know they need us. Because EVERYONE wants security, but only a few are willing to accept the price.- F-8

You need to put the youtube= bit in square brackets to embed the video into the post properly. It's fixed in the version in this post.

I've got a couple, so bear with me:

"If there is a god, he will have to beg my forgiveness" Graffiti on the walls of Auschwitz, writer unknown.

"No Astrophysics before breakfast!" a long standing rule in my house, that had to be put in place after I turned 5.
