for me its always been the many variations on the "there's nothing new under the sun" phrase.
I've dedicated quite a bit of my life to showing that that's wrong.
That's not to say that I mean one should try to be different for the sake of being different or something like that, but rather that new ideas, new ways of looking at things, new ways of thinking, and new ways of being (if that's not too far flung), are possible given enough work, luck, and chutzpa.
On a more practical note, I always felt that it had the effect of cutting off any attempt at creativity before it even began, this quote should be banned in any educational setting so far as I'm concerned.

Well, the war in the middle east (that has been going for decades) is due to a few factors. The U.S. played a role, but England was occupying a few countries do look after their oil interests long before the U.S. got involved.

We're all as bad as each other.
No denying that.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

My point is that preaching peace only works up until the enemy kills you. At some point you need to fight back. I'm not condoning any of the wars or saying war is good, I'm simply saying if you don't fight back, the aggressors will kill you.
If the USA's principle's were peace, it wouldn't be involved in so much war.
So, I am confused as to how Dick Chaney could've meant that quote like that.
Taking that into account, it could also mean, "Our country screwed up and I'm afraid it's too late to talk about peace." I suppose it would be a mistake to say that his quote applies to all decisions, since life is not always about winning or losing, but that doesn't mean it never has its moments.

The only quote from..ANYTHING that makes me confused to the point of anger is the whole "Over 9000!" thing

seriously, i fucking HATE that!!!
Try anything involving chuck norris, i sooo wanna maim people that use that.
I've never heard it used online, but to clarify, I'd say it is pretty much the same as the "Turing it up to 11" quote.

"There is no 'I' in team", to which I usually reply with one of the following:

there's no 'U' either
but there is a "U" in suck
or I'm feeling particularly megalomanic: I spell win with a huge capital 'I'

also any quote from monty python films, before I get flamed I love the films, but for a group who were famous for off the wall, random, surreal and unexpected humour, having their work reduced to a few repeated until death lines is just stupid.

Any religious discussion ending with "You just have to have faith" or something to that effect. Ugh. Which brings me to one of my favorite quotes "Faith is believing what you know ain't so." -Mark Twain
Hooooly shit, this! My mother uses this excuse all the time and it pisses me right off.

He forgot to mention spiders.....
That quote annoys me. Why should you be afraid to be afraid if you have reason to?
It's a stupid idea that we should never feel fear or even that we should overcome any fear.

Certainly if it stops you from doing things you should do, or if your fears are groundless, but there are things you should be afraid of.

Well, it certainly shows the discussion has gotten into a point where continuing it is useless, when they have admitted their arguments have nothing to do with logic or evidence.

Alexander the Great and Hephaistion put it best:
"Alexander: I've come to believe the fear of death drives all men, Hephaistion. This we didn't learn as schoolboys.
Hephaistion: I've always believed, Alexander. But this seems so much bigger than us.
Alexander: Did Patroclus stare at Achilles when they stood side by side at the siege of troy?
Hephaistion: Patroclus died first.
Alexander: If you do... if you were to fall Hephaistion, I will avenge you, and follow you down to the house of death.
Hephaistion: I would do the same.
Alexander: On the eve of battle it's hardest to be alone.
Hephaistion: Then perhaps this is farewell, my Alexander.
Alexander: Fear not, Hephaistion. We are at the beginning. "

albeit from the movie, it's the closest I could find.

"If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything"

Fuck that, how else will people know when they're doing something stupid? or when I'm doing something stupid. Most of my conversations with friends revolves around insulting each other
Fix'd. That's actually appropriate. It prevents people from clogging up important conversations with useless banter. Like, when you're making a suggestion about something, make it useful. If it's not, at least make it funny.

You know the saying "Live each day as if it were your last, because one day it will be."

That's just so freaking dumb. Imagine it's your last day on earth and you know it, what do you do? Go to work? Hell no. Visit the in-laws? Screw that! Start saving for your retirement? You've got to be kidding.
You will tell everyone you know exactly how you feel about them, go/fly someplace warm, find the cutest girls/guys you can find and party all your savings away in one last hurrah, breaking any and all laws that you don't particularly care for along the way. Great last day on earth.
Then you wake up the next day in a jail cell with someone who speaks none of the languages you do with no funds to get home and no friends to help you out.

How about living each day as if there's a tomorrow and you want to be happy then too?

I hate when people quote that " cake is a lie," thing.
This so much.

The only good thing that comes out of it is that it helps you see who has actually played the game, because they know that the cake isn't a lie. And it seems like the people who have played it almost never use the quote, only the people who heard it two years ago and thought "lol cake in portal" and don't actually know anything about it.
I know an ultimate Valve/Portal/HL/TF2 fanboy who HAS played it and still says that.

AND BELIEVES IT!

He actually thinks the cake is a lie I haven't completed it and I know it isn't.

OT:
'KEEP THAT FIRE AWAY FROM MY VODKA!'
'nope...'
'OVER 9000!!1!'
'I have a dream...'
(in a stupid way. e.g. 'I have a dream, in this dream I am in bed with person X')
'DO you have any idea who I am? I'm a big deal!'
'Vini Vidi Vici.'
(You beat us by one kill in BlOps, that was not conquering. That was phyrric (hmm, my spelling is bad))
'Render unto Caesar...'
(Do you know what that's from F*ck ass? Just because it was a quest name in FNV!)

I hate all of these, but I'll be back with more.

"self quotes", i.e. people who think of something profound to say, and then ruin it by quoting themselves as saying it. It's a bit of a facebook thing with certain people.
