No! My worst fear has been realised! Why are they going and changing things!?

Did they not listen to what I was saying a month ago?

I want Hitman: Blood Money a second time with no changes! Hell, I'll be happy even if they stick with the same levels, just change all the textures so we can trick ourselves into thinking it's something new.

They can't soil this chance! Hitman was perfect the 3rd time around (or whatever Blood Money was), no changes! No innovation!
It's all over...

Why... ?

Also, for people arguing that it will still be good, has bringing the game to a "broader audience" ever signified anything good? Usually it means they are going to rip out everything that made the original fun, because for some reason they believe everyone who plays video-games are idiots. This makes the game less fun for everyone. I only know of one exception to this, and even with that one many people would disagree with me.

Are people seriously going off their shit simply because they wanted to make the game more accessible? Cause that's all they said. What? They want to change anything at all? It'sRuined FOREVER! [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuinedFOREVER]

I want you to stop and think about that for a second. They said the previous Hitman games were too niche. They said they'd like to keep that appeal, just also add to it. This can be a million things we have no idea about, and a ton of people are already jumping up and crying foul.

Seriously people, for all our claims that gamers can be mature, this isn't helping.

I wasn't a fan of playing Hitman, I'll admit it, I sucked at it, but I loved watching my cousin play it, and if they dumb it down too much I'm going to be a sad panda.

What I got from this was that the levels would now be more dynamic* and that they would allow newer players to pick up the game easier. That is, that you would either get tool-tips or better controls. I'm not going to complain about any of this.

*I haven't played Hitman in a few generations but last time I played it, the levels and character movements were practically pre-planned, characters always did the same thing every time if you gave the exact same input. A more dynamic level allows for replayability and some truly nasty scenarios. [Imagine on a replay, you fly through a section that last time was empty. Only for it to suddenly have a character that raises the alarm, forcing you to no longer go silent. Or perhaps, someone walking around the corner who wasn't there last time. Random unpredictable elements will make the game, far, far, harder.]

Just my two-cents.

So, just like Diablo 3, the developers are no longer in control of their own IP, and they must cater to you. 'Else they are considered traitors and unworthy of the very product they make. I love it.

I think it's too early to panic. I played all hitman games and I like the series, but changes aren't always bad. Sure it might turn out to be horrible game, but it also might be a good game or even better than originals (in other words, stop being nostalogia nerd.

Don't they understand the whole charm of the previous hitman games was the fucking difficulty level and the fact that you had to figure out pretty much everything yourself.... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Really? From the experience I've had with Hitman (Silent Assassin and Blood Money), it seemed like it didn't leave you to figure out anything by yourself. There were always little orange exclamation marks on the maps that told you exactly where to go and where all objects of interest were located, and once you knew that everything else was pretty much self-explanatory. If there was one thing the Hitman games left me wanting, it was the room to think freely and think creatively.

Anyway, "broader appeal" never rings good if you're a long time fan of a series, but to me it's still innocent until proven guilty, it's too early to make assumptions.

Don't you think you're going a bit over the top? I admit yes - they had some good games and yes it was great fun with the challenge. But you know what. You love it so much? Go play it again.

I won't be offensive like a lot of the gentlemen above >.>
But really come on. I hate to see a good franchise ruined as much as the next but you've clearly not been here long if you've not seen many better games ruined before. I could provide a long list if you want - or maybe someone could help me out....?

100% what OP said.

if you'll excuse me, i have to make a call to get some game-devs professionally taken care of.

Let's just wait until we have actually played the game before saying that it's terrible/awesome, shall we?

Appeal to a broader audience can also mean that the lower difficulties contain way more hints and point to a certain solution while the higher difficulty settings allow the creativity we all love.

And honestly, the Hitman games were never really hard. Once you figured out the timing in a level it became piss easy. The fun of the games was in trying out every possibility that wasn't Silent Assassin. Like murdering everybody without getting spotted once or raising the alarm.

there's a good french expression that says: "Ne vends pas la peau de l'ours, avant de l'avoir tué" that in this case means that you don't have to be so hasty, and should wait until it comes out in order to judge it better.

Eh, they didn't really say how much or in what fashion they were dumbing it down, so lets not get all alarmist. For all we know, they're just putting in an option for auto-aim and super easy mode, and that's what I will assume until further notice.

Christ, I would not want to be a game developer. Mention change in any fashion and half your fanbase declares it's ruined forever while the other half gears up to zero bomb the game as soon as it comes out.
This is why you never tell anyone anything ever.

hitman was hard to you people? jesus, that game had retards for AI. i used to jack up the difficulty level just because i was tired of mowing everyone down and decided to actually use stealth for once (a far more satisfying way to play the game).

The problem is that they don't give a fuck. They're fine with forsaking their base entirely for a bunch of newfags who have never played a video game in their lifetime as long as it brings in more scratch.

Yeah, I don't think it has ever once turned out that way for any video game. "Appeal to a broader audience" just means turning hard into normal, normal into easy, and easy into an interactive movie where you literally can't fuck up even if you try. Why bother appeasing the people who actually bought and enjoyed your games before? The people who supported you? They're in the minority as opposed to casual gamers and non-gamers.

Using that phrase has basically become a much more polite way of a developer saying, "yeah, we took your money, and now you can go fuck yourself because we're axing everything you loved about this series."

OT: RIP Hitman indeed. Just like so many series before it, it's being revived simply for a cash grab based on name recognition.
"Newfags"? Seriously?

Regardless, I think you're taking this a little seriously. Take some breaths, read the article again, and wait for some more concrete evidence. This article is complete shit in terms of info, there's no concrete details and everything the devs said is stuff devs have been saying since the beginning of time. You're reading far, far, far too much into a shitty little article intended solely to tell people there's a new Hitman.

Agreed. People are almost literally howling for their blood, making this whole thing like some kind of "us versus them" battle of epic proportions, the gamer against the hordes of ravenous casual sheeple and the vile corporate machinations of capitalism, when it's really a videogame maybe becoming slightly easier.

This is really annoying me though. Quit throwing tantrums, the people at IO are, well, people, and they're last few games haven't sold that well (Kane and Lynch, cough). The "hardcore fans" who supported them so much? As soon as they read that the game may try and appeal to a broader market, they start pitching a fit and screaming bloody murder. I don't know about you, but if I saw that kind of reaction from my "fans" I'd abandon them as fast as possible and head for markets where people buy more and ***** less.

I don't see the problem. They said that they want to make it easier to play and more accessible, but still "hardcore". That can mean any number of things. "easier to play" can mean that they are making the control scheme better (and if they do, good on them. The Hitman games have never had the best control scheme). "accessible" can mean that they want to make it easier to just jump into the game and start playing. It does not mean "remove all depth". If anything, the stuff mentioned in the article makes me more hopeful that the game will be good (better A.I.? yeeeeees!).

agreed on all levels.

I think making the hitman series a little easier for everyone to grasp would be great. It is a series where I haven't had the time or patience to play all the games, and a version where things are explained a bit better would be great!
