Chances are most of you have never heard of him, but a great musician passed away last night from heart failure.

He was a huge talent and a darkly funny person.

He was also the man with the deepest voice in rock!

Here are some of his finest moments, including a hilarious appearance on Jerry Springer where he defends his right to shag groupies and pose nude in Playgirl magazine:

I know there probably aren't many Type O Negative fans on the Escapist, but if there are a few share your fave songs, memories of this highly talented person.

Steele faked his death in 2005 for publicity but the articles I've seen look pretty legitimate. Can't say I was a fan of his music, cause I never really listened, but R.I.P.

His death hasn't been confirmed by a reliable source yet (his bandmates and management don't count as a reliable source - after all they were in on the last "Pete Is Dead" hoax in 2005), so I'm waiting to see the coroner's report before I believe this one.

I've been a fan of the very early Type O Negative ever since I heard the song "Zero Tolerance" many, many years ago. Don't really like what they did later but oh well.

I just hope its a joke. I wanna see them live so badly. Type-0 were my first Band i've bought a record of. Never saw them live though.
If that basterds dead i'm pretty pissed and sad.

That's terrible. 48 seems like a young age to have heart failure. At least his works will live on after him.

No shit? I guess Satan called and demanded his voice back. Too bad, the dude was a pretty good singer. :\

I heard this morning on another forum and I hope this is another hoax.
I'm very saddened by this.. I've been listening to them since I woke up.

Started listening to them early last year, and I wish I heard them sooner (I was actually going to buy their album over 6 years ago just because I liked the cover) and once I heard "Love You to Death" I've been addicted.

Shit I remember seeing him on Jerry and then heard his voice and was like...wow this is probably the only white guy capable of playing Shaft.
RIP

Source?

Come on, you know the rules. Pics and source or it didn't happen.
It's on the Metal Hammer UK site. I don't personally give a shit if you believe it or not, go Google it if you're suspicious.

Wowsors. October Rust was my listen-to-every-day album for the entire spring of 1998. The world has lost a talent there. That's a young age to die from heart failure though.

Shit man. RIP. *Goes off to listen to the October Rust album*
Absolutely love that album... one of my all time top 5. It was so different and such a landmark in metal.

'Die wth You' and 'Ode to Bacchus' get me every time.

FUCK YOU!

I cannot beleive it. Type O Negative got me in to Metal. Me and a really good friend bonded over Bloody Kisses and October Rust.

This royally fucking sucks. What the hell. To me this is worse than when Johnny Cash died.

Yeah that's kinda how I felt too.

But one thing we gotta remember, Pete was a very tormented individual and often spoke of how for him death would be a form of release.

He's probably happier up there in the great threesome filled Corvette in the sky.
