True story:Fappy said:So my Xbox 360 just got the inevitable RROD. Yeah this happens to people a lot... so why am I making a thread about this? Because I am pretty fucking steamed about how Microsoft treated me when I called about the 3 year warranty.
I bought my first 360 about 4 years ago, which survived roughly two years before the video card died. I sent it in (while it was still under warranty) and they REPLACED the Xbox for free. The support guy explained that they would extend my warranty for the new Xbox INCLUDING the 3 year RROD warranty.
The Xbox they sent was pretty crappy from the start (it made really loud noises and locked up more often than an Xbox should). Well it lasted up until now and when I tried to order a repair online it wouldn't let me select the RROD free repair. As it turns out they never actually renewed the warranty for the REPLACED Xbox, so that essentially this new machine only had about two years of coverage as opposed to three. When I explained this to costumer service they told me I, "had been misinformed."
So yeah, fuck that. Now I can either shell out 100 bucks for a shitty machine that will die again in a few years or throw down 300 for a Slim. FML.
Cut it out will ya, you know every console gamer isn't sitting there jealous of you and your gaming pc, most of us are perfectly happy playing on consoleWaaghPowa said:The extra money you shell out for computer components every few years is nowhere near as expensive as replacing an xbox EVERY year, assuming you're that unlucky.Stalk3rchief said:And you also have to shell out extra money to get new video cards and such every other month if you want to actually enjoy good games. I've got a decent PC that I game on and I consider this a major downfall to consoles. With my 360 I can just breathe easier knowing that, until they make the next system, I can play whatever fucking game I want without worrying about the frame rate or turning down the resolution.ivansnick said:Well then. It is now time for you to BUY A COMPUTER
this has no restrictions. can instal linux. Can play games (and the games are cheeper). Do you homework. And will not be "not supported" when the next console comes out.
Good hunting
Also console games are formatted for higher screen resolutions, but are rendered below 720. PC's render the games themselves in whatever res you play on, which is why they run better on an Xbox. So yes, you don't have to worry about turning down the res, because it's already down....way down.
What? Really?acosn said:They don't fix their problem hardware, they charge you for services that are free on every other platform, and they nickle and dime you every chance they get.
And why couldn't you fix your Xbox 360 like that?EGtodd09 said:Yeah sure, if you don't know anyone else in the world with a computer, or you don't have a second computer at your house, or you don't have a smart phone, or you don't have a cell phone at all, then you're going to have to google it on your broken PC because you've got "Safe mode with networking" as an option. If you're going to try and invalidate my point, don't be stupid about it.Vibhor said:LolEGtodd09 said:The great thing about PC is that when they break, you can just google the fix, which always work. Just stay off the dodgy website and it won't break at all. and dude, it's just a xbox, your life isn't fucked.
Google from a broken PC.
Set for how long...three weeks to 6 months when everything in the computer becomes as good as having an amiga taped to the desk?Jarl said:Or you could buy a gaming PC and be set for life.I jest, I jest. Keep your pants on.
Sorry to hear about that shit, man. I've found that, when talking to representatives like that, always get their name and attempt to get a clear, solid confirmation that what you're being promised is going to happen. I had similar problems when trying to get a guy out to fix my internet, they apparently "forgot" to note down that I wanted him to stop by. By then a week had passed.
Sadly I doubt there's much you can do. No wonder you're steamed, though. I think anyone would be. Getting shafted ain't fun.
Except that most of my Nintendo products got put through a fairly punishing tour of service.Rancid0ffspring said:What? Really?
I'm quite sure that EVERY other product in existence has a set term warranty. If it fails outside of that time period you would be expected to pay for any repair service. PS3 certainly does 134 quid last time I checked.
Do you think nintendo wouldn't charge for a replacement if your N64 packed in? There's no way inhell that it is still in warranty.
I know the logical and most likely cheaper step would be to buy another one but seriously dude. Out of warranty products that fail will always have a fee to repair them! It's he way this shizzle works
My old computer had a damaged motherboard, most likely due to a failure during manufacturing. I think that's what caused it.EGtodd09 said:Wow, you must not take very good care of your property. Or it was just shit, either one really, or maybe both.Moonpooman said:On my old computer, the harddisk melted. I'm pretty sure that wasn't due to a virus or something similar.EGtodd09 said:The great thing about PC is that when they break, you can just google the fix, which always work.
