If your set on getting a new XBox 360, make the jump to a slim. Shell out 100 if you want because it's cheaper, but it'll probably red ring on you before long.

The real issue is that Microsoft's stuff isn't that durable. I still have a working NES. Granted, it takes a bit of coaxing to work, but it still does. Switch to a different manufacturer.

I'd go with a pc or slim, slim being the cheaper option. I think the Ps3 is better than 360, I've had mine for up on 3 years now and no problems. I am running out of hard drive space though.

That's weird, because when I had the RRoD on my first Xbox, I was told in no uncertain terms that the warranty would not be extended, and I accepted that. Other than that, the customer service I received from Microsoft was the best I've ever had, and indeed they even returned the replacement a week earlier than they said it would be (they'd said two weeks on the phone, and in emails, but it only took one week to arrive from Berlin). Fortunately for me with regards to my current machine, my second Xbox (the replacement) was stolen and so my current, third, one is from the insurance, and as such the warranty was replaced on that.

My point is that Microsoft aren't the evil greedy pigs everyone makes them out to be, and they told me exactly what their policy on warranties was and it was fine by me, so yes, in this case you were misinformed. It's not a problem with Microsoft's "shitty customer service", it's a problem with one guy who got things mixed up, and you're getting butt-hurt where there's no need to be. So either shut up and put up, or ditch it and get a PS3, either way don't complain on the internet about something that you're taking way out of proportion.

PC MOTHERDUCKER.

I kid of course, but we know it would happen during any console war anyway.
Personally, I put handheld consoles above consoles anyway c:

... what was this thread about?
Oh right, yeah, I lost 2 Xbox's that way.

i'm sorry for your loss, but the quote pretty much says it here. without it in writing, looks like you don't have a leg to stand on. personally i'd see if i could get it repaired by somebody outside of microsoft, failing that get an older console. i don't see the point in 'slim' versions of consoles, just another way to get money outta you...

Cut it out will ya, you know every console gamer isn't sitting there jealous of you and your gaming pc, most of us are perfectly happy playing on console
Not trying to make anyone jealous, simply informing the uninformed. Try not to project too hard.

Well then. It is now time for you to BUY A COMPUTER

this has no restrictions. can instal linux. Can play games (and the games are cheeper). Do you homework. And will not be "not supported" when the next console comes out. :)

Good hunting
And you also have to shell out extra money to get new video cards and such every other month if you want to actually enjoy good games. I've got a decent PC that I game on and I consider this a major downfall to consoles. With my 360 I can just breathe easier knowing that, until they make the next system, I can play whatever fucking game I want without worrying about the frame rate or turning down the resolution.
New video cards every month to enjoy good games? Yeah it's not like most games have system requirements of 2008 PC...

With a PC expect to need to upgrade every 2-3 years to keep up with current gen games/dx.
Incorrect. You do not need to upgrade every two or three years. The current console gen is set to last for quite a while, and hardware from five years ago(Trust me I know firsthand) can run current console ports jut fine.
You will need to upgrade every 2-3 years to keep up with DirectX (DX). I am not saying you will be unable to run things, just that to keep up with them you will need to upgrade. Example: Crysis 2, a PC that hasn't been upgraded in 5 years is going to be able to play on less than mid settings, while a system upgraded last year will be able to play on high (and a system you bought three weeks ago for 2 grand can play it on ultra).

Playing games is not supposed to be about graphics. If you want that go watch a Michael Bay movie.

Having the game on mid settings does not change the game itself, and I can tell you first-hand that Crysis 2 is pretty damn good.
This is exactly true, yes you need to upgrade every few years but you only need to get top of the line if you want to play the game in the highest quality. Console gamers take a graphical down grade all the time then complain that their mid range pc's don't look as good. If the graphical quality really doesn't matter to you, then it should be no big deal.

why does it seem like everyone's xbox's are breaking down while I still have my original Xbox 360 arcade version since 2006 that has never RROD on me and has never had any problems and is still running fine.

3DO was the best flippin' console of ANY generation.

Jurassic Park Interactive FTW, y'all.
Cmon man. The Atari Jaguar had the most amazing features ever! Then Nintendo had the original creators assassinated, and stole the plans to produce the original GBA! It's bogus man!

I mean, the only other consoles to come close were the Ngage and Virtual Boy!

I had 6 die in 5 months, welcome to my world. Yet my Sega Genesis from 1991 has never required any kind of fixing...or updates, or ToS for DRM.
What a lovely straw man you've built there.

I actually run an older gaming rig myself, and generally the games I play tend to not be hardware intense at all. I meerly implied that if you want to keep up with the current technology and play every game that comes out at max (the way you do with consoles) then yes you do need to upgrade frequently. As for DX, most games still support DX9, but most games are programmed with the option to run DX10 or DX11, as I said before keep up, not required. I own all 3 consoles, and I play video games on my PC primarily. At no point was I suggesting that he opt for the console over the PC, at no point did I suggest he opt for the PC over the console(actually I may have implied the latter). I was just pointing out the fall backs of the PC in general. On that topic there are fewer games released for the PC than any other system, and half of what we get are horrible ports of Console games anyway.

OP: I'm sorry to hear about the Xbox man, hope you get it sorted m8.

Hey man, I'm agreeing with you. I'm simply implying that to keep up with HIGH quality you need to upgrade every so many years. I'm the kind of PC gamer that wants the best of the best so I upgrade frequently.
