I take great pride in proper typing. After all, I had to learn something in my computer apps classes.

Acronyms for things are fine by me, especially in fast-paced games where typing out the entire thing is just not quick enough.

i.e. on TF2 when everyone says "engi" instead of "engineer" for situations like "SPY BEHIND YOU ENGI"

Foreigners making mistakes is fine in my books, it's actually pretty enlightening sometimes. It makes me realize how retarded the way English works sometimes...

(Example: If something bursts INTO flames. It is now ON fire. Even though technically the fire is most definitely ON it, not the other way around.)

Wording your stuff properly will get you listened to. Even idiots agree with that, deep down.

TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS NEVER ACCEPTABLE IN ANY SITUATION APART FROM AN EMERGENCY.

I REALLY HATE PEOPLE WHO TYPE IN NOTHING BUT CAPS, IT IS SOMETHING I WILL NEVER GRASP.

grammar is for the weak.

Personally, I'm fine with it, probably because "as you will undoubtedly notice" I am horrible with such things. I don't always have time to ensure that everything I write on the inter-web is clean and neat, I have more pressing matters to attend to, such as getting my point across, or hitting a sniper with a bat.

I can tolerate things like bad spelling and grammar, silly abbreviations and the like (as long as I can understand it) but when it's obviously deliberate (LOLcat and 1337, for example) then I tend to let passive-aggression get the better of me.

However, I reserve the worst of my ire for people who actually use things like "lol" in spoken conversation.
If you find something funny, laugh at it. You will not make a good impression by saying "rofl" to someone's face.

What pisses me off are people who are too lazy to type the word you. It's only three letters; surely it won't take you that long to type it.

It really does depend on the person who is typing the post. I can fully understand a person using short hand if English is their second language but there really is very little excuse if the persons first language is English.

That being said, I would like to point out that even some of the french speaking in Quebec use better English than some people in Ontario. It makes me cringe when I think of that.

Yes, appearances are especially important when on the net. When one cannot see the person in question, they can only judge them BY their syntax, grammar and overall use of the language.

I just wish people weren't afraid of capital letters and periods. Usually I have no trouble reading someone's sentence, but every now and then I need some translating.

I really hope that title is a joke, otherwise, ... fail.

Grammar and Spelling i'm kind of on the fence. I mean, not everyone spells like a...um...I can't think of anything. Okay, spells or writes properly, and thats just them, or they might be foreign.

But for those that intellionally use "L33t Speak" or "Chat Speek" or whatever the hell you want to call absurd language people use as their way of typing, it makes me want to put them in a room and slowly write the longest math equation in the world on a chalkboard with chalk.

In a perfect world, people would write properly on teh internetz.

Unless your replies require you to be EXTREMELY quick, such as chatting while playing an FPS or in a hurry on MSN. But we're on a forum, so I can't think of a good excuse for poor English.

Completely agree.
What puzzles me though is that the majority of the Internet is English speaking, most of them being either American or British, meaning English is your MOTHER LANGUAGE.

Therefore, how can you people confuse "your" with "you're"?
Or the common fanfic confusion of "quiet" with "quite" (I guess quite sounds better, but it doesn't mean what you kids think it means)

My English class in high school, where most people were beginners, didn't make this sort of obvious mistake.

I think an education system has reached a new low when you hold national contests with impressive prizes for kids up to the age of 14 (which to me is a high age to be this dumb) for PEOPLE WHO CAN SPELL.

Being able to spell correctly shouldn't be treated like being a proficient piano player, it should be considered NORMAL, and if it's not..well, it says a lot about the country itself.

Well, if this thread was good for something, it was that at least we know which of our fellow forumites do not understand irony!

Capitals for emphasis:

THE THREAD TITLE WAS IRONIC. A JOKE. PLEASE STOP POSTING ABOUT IT. CONTRIBUTE TO THE DISCUSSION INSTEAD.

I hate netspeak/chatspeak. I hate it with a burning passion. I won't even use it when I send a text on my phone. I will spend the extra few seconds it takes for me to complete a word, rather than use a number or something.
