Does anyone else get annoyed by the sob story about their racial ancestors that people of basically every different "race" or religion pull?

I don't see how what happened to someone 50, 100 years ago should give someone rights to act like a dick and demand respect personally.

I'm not trying to troll here, this is a serious question, I just want to know people's opinion on this. Should someone who had racial ancestors of a poor, or morally incorrect background be allowed to spew nonsense on that basis?

And if someone wants to pull the ancestor card on me, they should note that my ancestors were poor white trash more or less for a long time, so if anything they were working alongside all of these oppressed people that people go on about...

Well, I'm 100% pure Caucasian...

So, obviously, I'm Satan reborn for all those horrible things I did before I was born.

So, yes, I am getting tired of people claiming some group ruined your life. You grew up in a suburb, your parents made at least 80 grand a year, and you have 500 dollar shoes. Shut up.

Some of my ancestors would have been kicked out of their homes in the Highland clearancesand forced to emigrate or work in factories/workhouses where they'd have no hope of making anything of themselves. I don't shake my fist at the Highlands in rage though.

My herritage on both sides of my family are Russian/Germanic Mennonites pre-WWI, usually persecuted for being all nice and kind and peace-loving along with Jews.

I'm half Hispanic, but don't really think too much of it until someone brings it up, as I look almost entirely Hispanic. One day in class we were sharing racial jokes in class and I didn't really mind until the whitest girl in class started going on about how it was wrong because her great grandmother was Hispanic. That pissed me off...

Amazing how people are always be able to find some excuse to hate other people, whether it's religious, genetic, philosophical, or economical stature, we seem to have a plethora of options.

Well I'm part German, Amish, Irish, and Welsh so I don't really have anything to complain about. Plus all my recent ancestors lived in America for the most part.

But yeah I don't think people should always pull out the "racial ancestors card" all the time. Maybe something happened to them way in the past that was bad, but that was in the past that you had nothing to do with, so don't act like you really suffered because it's somewhat insulting to the people who did. So yeah, lay of the "boohoo, people I'm related to distantly suffered somewhat, treat me better."

Except for the Jews. Damn, they have not had it easy ever.

I am 100% white, with my family coming from Scotland and England (Denmark if you go past the Norman invasion of 1066). And it pisses me off when people complain about bad things that happened to them, or say that "my people" caused it. What the fuck are you talking about, dude? I don't want to be associated with these idiots either, and I hate what the Caucasian people have done to the world. But don't take it out on me.

On a side note, also having blond hair and blue eyes makes it much worse (but sometimes funny). I've been called a Nazi several times, but my friend said once when I was feeling unhappy "hey, look on the bright side: you could go to any period of time and there would be a table for you".

Bah, I don't even know what race I am, so I think anything based on race is stupid.

My mom is from Ecuador, as were her ancestors, so I'm 50% Hispanic. On the other side, my dad is, for lack of a better word, a mutt, and is primarily Italian and French, so I'm 50% "white". I asked my dad what race I was, and he said "White, because 10% is where you're born." So by his logic I'm 60% white, or I would be, if I wasn't born it Miami (AKA North Cuba).... so yeah.....

Race is stupid.

My family is completely Irish for as far back as we can find. My generation seems to be doing our level best to change that though. As far as I know my cousin is screwing his way through Long Beach, California and my immediate family lives in England. I suppose if you go far enough back my family's Celtic or Scottish or something like that.

I feel inherent racial guilt for being English and thus the child of a race of slavers who sought profit in cruelty. I wish to place myself as far away from that as possible by being an honourable person. But I can see why somebody wouldn't care less about the sins of their fathers or grandfathers. We are the directors of our own fate, we shouldn't be tied down by an earlier generations mistakes.

I dont see why your ancestors dictate your actions. I dont like when mine are insulted, but they dont give me reason to be a dick.

However, I do think that you should be respected for them. You can say you're native/African/Asian/Latin/Etc. -American Descent and be proud for it, and no one should tell you you're not, or that it doesnt mean anything now and that you're just American, or your just British, or you're just South African, or you're just Australian. I mean, if you're born and grown in that country all your life, then yes, you are that, but you're also racial group descent.

if that makes any sense at all. SOrry, its kinda hard to word how I was thinking.

Yeah, it's stupid to be proud or ashamed of one's ancestors (or anyone else who died before you were born, for that matter), or be held, or hold people accountable for theirs.

Well according to ancestor obsessed people since I'm 95% caucasian I'm practically evil incarnate. As for the other 5%, well half of that is Native American and half is Chinese. So I guess they could say I'm also part communist.

In all seriousness though, people pulling the ancestry card is just an asshole move. One time sticks out in my mind when I got into an argument with some jackass who then punched me. When he was being questioned later he came up with the "He's white, he deserves it" defense.

I'm Scottish and Irish, and to be honest I don't really care much for my ancestry. I once visited the little house that all my poor peasant ancestors lived in before immigrating to Ontario, and that's about it. And while I never get any "fucking British beat down my ancestors," nor deal any "fucking English kick me outta my home," I both acknowledge past wrongs, and acknowledge that the decedents of dicks don't really deserve whatever their ancestors did.
