Or some natives in Canada. They get tax breaks, free stuff, and money. Yet they're still constantly complaining that this land belongs to them, or that they should be getting special treatment.

It happened 100+ years ago, guys. Stop complaining. And stop calling me a "SILLY WHITE BOYYY", because my ancestors had nothing to do with any of this.
Right, 'cause there were totally no long lasting effects.

100+ years ago? Are you still talking about First Nations? It was a bit more recent than that.

I'm German.
Oh god, I'm a nazi! o.o

And, of course, I'm personally responsible for everything bad Germany has ever done.

My scottish ancestors were probably forced out by queen elizabeth to Ireland, and then in turn to America, but I haven't created a Scottish College Fund

I have traced my racial ancestry as far back as my mum and dad. I'm half Scottish, half Geordie.

Thats as far back as most people need to go in my opinion.

White. Or Nordic actually, if that's one. Some Germanic and Russian ancestors from 8-15 older generations. At least by judging from the sound of some names from family trees/records.

I don't really get this thread. And no, there isn't a need to explain it. I've just never ever heard a 'sob story' like that, so no, I don't get annoyed by them.

The past is a history book, only to be looked at with an unbiased view in order to learn a lesson.

Anyone who ties emotion to their past, especially when it's before they were even born, is a whiny ***** trying to find someone else to blame for shit going wrong in their life.

I hate when black people talk about slavery and how bad they had it.

They had slaves too, fuck every race had slaves at one point, what makes them so special? Why are white people the only "evil" ones when it comes to slavery?

Most of the black slaves back then were sold to the white man by other blacks (tribal warfare they called it)
Really you don't see the difference between slaves from 2000 years ago and the fact that a nation in the modern era owned slaves for several hundred years effectively creating modern day super powered America? And when they finally came to the end of slavery and instead of saying thanks for free labour and basically 80% profit for hundreds of years went on to segregate and disown a whole race?

I mean i'm not saying its right to ***** about how bad slavery was and that people should get a pass because of it but dude this is just being completely ignorant.

Every great empire was built on the backs of slaves. Also slaves of today got it better then the slaves of yesteryear when it came to an end. Also we still have slaves, they're called Butlers and maids now.

My dad's British, and my mum's Australian, so I get to feel guilty about sending prisoners here, AND what they got up to when they got here...

50%- Eastern European Ashkenazi Jewish, mainly Hungarian.
25%- English-Irish Caucasian.
25%- Unknown as my grandmother was adopted and the records are sealed.
And a bit of asian in there somewhere as the genetic tests reveal.
Certainly a diverse bunch, my ancestors.

I certainly wouldn't judge anyone based on their race or religion. It is important to learn about the events of the past and remember those who have lost their lives because of hatred. In my opinion we should do this in order to learn from our past mistakes and work towards a better future, not in order to point a blaming finger towards anyone in the present.

Well I have Dwemer and Dunmer origins. So, not only do I have ancestors who are now completely gone, I am also mistrusted by almost everyone because of my ancestors actions. Great fucking work guys.

To answer the question: people should stick to their own cultures and not attempt to shoulder the burden of their ancestors for no reason. That said, there are certain things which can't just be forgotten.

Example: an Irish American whose only real tie to Ireland is his Great Great Grandfather who emigrated in the 1840's doesn't really have the right to be mad at the British. But someone whose father was killed by the British army on Bloody Sunday [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1972)] kind of does.
