This didn't occur to me until I remembered that last night an African American man on voice chat was racist to me for being Australian on the Playstation Network while I was trying to play an online match of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. His words were:

"GeekPhilosopher? Wait, he's Australian? AW HELL NO!"

And he kicked me off the server even though I rightfully waited my turn for a match and had sat through the waiting period of watching other people play, but as soon as my turn came this American, who was African-American, but his race here is not the issue, his RACISM however IS the issue. I am tired of being mistreated by Americans in online matches and even online in general, because we are seen as inferior as a nation for reasons I just can't put my finger on. I really don't know why some Americans don't like Australians.

The only funny thing about it was that an African-American man seized the opportunity to be racist to a white man, when I would not have done the same to him. I just got post-coloni-owned people.

I would have put the anger away and let it go if this hadn't happened to me before. It's not just him who was racist to me, countless times I have been denied a match when I have patiently waited my turn for one, just because of my national identity.

Wait... are you serious? That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why in the world would anyone be racist towards Australians? What have you ever done to anyone else, ESPECIALLY any black people, that would deserve this kind of treatment??

Geek, I'd like to apologize for such an ignorant experience. We don't all think that way, believe me.

EDIT: ...Okay, then, so apparently you guys have done more than I originally thought. My bad. Still, my point stands.

Yep, I doubt it had anything to do with the fact that your ping is going to be really shitty from Australia.

I've never had Aussie hate thrown at me on XBL before, and as people on there hate against everything, I thought it didn't exist.
But here we are
Tough break, but take solace in the fact that we usually beat them, even with the bad lag ;)
Well, me and my friends usually do anyway.
But racism.
Its bad, yo.

Me as a fellow Aussie have found this in every single game i have, not every match every game (GOW2), and to be honest it is starting to piss me off a lot as well... i'm just gonna throw this out there but most times it has been an African-American.

I've noticed it too, and I'm American. Last time I tried to defend the Australian guy, and then he called me a "stupid little kid." I just tried to help.

:(

Err, the Australians did have that one time when they took Aboriginal babies from their mothers and had that ol' White Australia Policy which was abolished in the Whitlam government years, but apart from that I can't think of anything else which would make people angry about Australia. Most jibes at Australia are linked to jokes about our crappy internet, or in anime fandom our lolicon ban. Australia isn't stereotyped as a racist country, but a crippled internet backwater country whose government is kinda lame.

Are Australians their own race? I suppose if you exile a certain breed of person away from the general population for awhile, they become their own race.

Seriously though, I really haven't heard of discrimination against Australians at all, at least here in America. It's like canada, we really don't think about you that often to become bigoted. I am sorry that this happened to the OP, I would suggest next time to either pretend you're Yahtzee and reap the celebrity status, or offer to show them a map of tasmania....I've heard all australian women have one on them at all times.

I've never heard of racism towards Australians.
I've seen people that kick Australians on Counter Strike because the server is located in the US and their ping is huge. And it makes sense to me.

And yes, there are racist black people.
I'm sorry, but very few black people are African-American, they're American, just like me. And it seems people have taken the name African-American to be the political correct term of black people. People living in Britain are not African-American
There are also racist white people.
And racist Asians.
And racist any other race.
Some assholes are racist. Some are so closed minded that it's useless talking to them.
We just have to learn to live with those type of people.

As an Australian, I can't help but find this post hilarious. What have we ever done to black people that's been bad?

I know it shouldn't be funny, but it is.

Just as one thing I've found from travelling different places around the world is that everyone loves Aussies. I've yet to find a country that doesn't like Australians, beside New Zealand but they hardly count as real people anyway.

I'm a white American, and I have to say, I am not privy to any anger or malice towards Ausieland beyond the aformentioned ping issue. To be fair, though, you have an odd government. Also, am I the only one who thinks it's insultive to refer to an American as African-American, or Asian-American? I'm not called a British-American. Seems racist. Sure, if you were born in an African nation and were naturalized, it's accurate, but otherwise, rude. Anyways... Not sure what to say to ya on this, as I don't care who I play in a game with. Just be glad you are not a Canadian! Flithy polar-bear lovers... Poor souls.

Well to be fair the European descended Australians did screw over the indigenous tribes of Australia. Much like they did with the South American and the North American people who got there before they did. And Australia did have slavery, much like the Europeans who went to North and South America. Although you have to keep in mind even the indigenous people of those areas also practiced slavery and genocide, so I still can't see how they can place blame. Every culture is guilty of genocide and slavery to an extent, it's just that the European races were the last ones to do it before it became a source of guilt.
