I believe that if you didnt intend to offend, its not racism.
I'd say it's more about who you're saying it to and their reaction - but I see what you're saying.

I once said "what up n*gger?" to a white friend (quoting Jackie Chan in Rush Hour) and my black mate walked in right behind me as soon as I said it.

A nervous laugh and an apology and I made it out alright - he knows I'm not racist.

I've never said such stuff but one friend I used to hang out with saw an indian man and repeatly called him. "Bud bup."
I'm British myself yet still dont get it.

Sort of on the subject I have a small collection of golliwog badges which are lolworthy, although whether or not these are racist seems to be entirely down to opinion.

people is way to picky about this. I mean, playing on XBL (keep in mind that my english has a very strong spanish accent) I got racist comments every two minutes or so, I don't take them seriously. It is funny how many people thinks that if you speak spanish you are mexican...

About racist jokes... also I dont take them seriously, I mean, they are jokes, if they are not meant to hurt then, who cares.

once me and my very sensitive black friend were talking about the justice system, and I made a joke about how I was to white to ever do serious jail time... it ended very badly for me.
People that sensitive only help racism prosper. How can we eliminate racism as a society, if saying something as harmless as that is going to be met with offense?

The thing with XBL is that EVERYONE gets racist comments every few seconds, whether you have a strong accent or not due to the vast number of "lol i r anonymous online" 12 year old Americans.

OT: Once i was drinking watermelon flavoured water, my black friend asked me what flavour it was. I replied 'Its watermelon, you might like it'. He fliped out (at this time i was unaware of the association with black men and watermelons)
Woah! Glad I read your post today, I totally did not know that. Thanks dude, you probably saved me from being beaten into a pulp.

OT: I always try to never say anything racist. Especially about the taliban, even when there are only white people present, you never know, they might be sympathizers.

true, once I said to them that I was not Mexican, and I was from Argentina.... they actually believed that Argentina was in Europe...so, yeah, they need a map XD
Normally when they start with the racist comments, I just concentrate on wining... revenge is a dish better served cold

I'm not so sure; given, a 'racist' joke may not necessarily be racism, and I'll be damned if I argue that it is, but there are other cases. When, for example, the British in the slave-trading Empire described the black people they were kidnapping and using for forced labour, they described them as animals, with no intention whatsoever to offend. They weren't, in their minds, being derogatory; they were describing what, to them, was a fact of nature, and I would imagine that if you suggested that what they were saying is offensive, they would reply that animals don't get offended. I think that a comment that is not thought through, or thought about in a different way such as the example above, can be a racist one even if there is no intention to "offend" as such.

My American, French and Itallian friends all take my jokes about their nations (usually referencing WW2) as jokes, and I don't make any other comments that could be taken as racist by anyone remotly sane. I ave got good at annoying vegitarians and clendliness-freaks however.

My comments are usually very racist. Mind you, I'm not racist and I never judged anyone by their color or religion. Still I'm sick of those overzealous crusaders of political correctness. I'll keep making my racist remarks untill people won't give a shit or will just interpret them as what they are: jokes. I believe we need to laugh at everything and screw the consequences. Still, my country is very racist so noone really cares ;p
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-eitsutpOc - on thw topic. Aw lord!

My German class occasionally shares a room with the Spanish class at my school the Spanish kids are terrible they tear apart the place, last year at Chrismas the German club built a Gingerbread House of a train station and the Spanish kids decided that they would eat it without asking they've also stolen shit from the room, I mean who supervises these people?

Well. anyway I once said "Stupid Spanish kids they should just cross the border and join the drug lords in Mexico" OOOh! Man that was one of the worst things I've ever said not only did a nearby Hispanic think I was talking about Hispanic people but also was offended that I had insulted his country, I think things through now.
