Do you live in Louisiana? Anyway, I have a lot of Hispanic family and they can hate on whities when the mood strikes them, and my grandad on my dad's side, is sorta racist, not really racist but... culturally misinformed I guess you could say...or you could say he's racist, I wouldn't blame you.
Nope, the Netherlands. There isn't a lot of racism here, at least not that I've noticed, except for all the hatred immigrants get, I don't think you can count that as racism.
And I don't think our elders can be fully blamed for being racist, it was a lot more accepted back in their day I guess.

Fortunately I do not have any racist family members. I'm half Italian, and some of my family served in WWII on the axis side, and even they aren't racist. I think that in Europe, racism is lass prevalent than other forms of discrimination, and as more and more cultures mix in this globalised world, racism should die out before long. Good to hear you can think for yourself, and not be mindlessly conditioned by your surroundings, big thumbs up! :)
What Europe is this?

Spain where they chant monkey noises at black football players?
Spain where they dress up as Minstrels and monkeys when black racers visit during F1?
Poland where they have anti Jewish/black gangs?
Romania where they throw bananas on the pitch at black footballers?
Russia where they have anti-black gangs?
Poland/slovakia/romania/russia/estonia where they have hugh neo-nazi movements?
Bosnia/serbia/croatia where they had ethnic clensing in the 1990s?

I don't know about your Europe, but the one I live in has a strictly civilised/medieval split down the middle
The Europe where every decade sees a sharp decline in the amount of racism. It's easy to point out isolated incidents, but truth is, 70 years ago every country was racist, to the point where the was a huge war about it. Let's be honest, there are always going to be hateful people. However, racism as an acceptable, and everyday way of life has dropped to the extreme minority, and continues to drop.

Not as far as I know, but I don't really get on with or even know most of my family neither my man nor my grandma are/were racist but my mam is just slightly homophobic

In her words:

"I don't think they should be aloud to marry but I wouln't want any harm to befall them."

Also:
"I don't care if they are black, white, asian, catholic, muslim, atheist, buddhist, purple, three feet tall or male as long as they love you and you love them I'm happy."
So overall race is not an issue with my immediate family

Though there was a split a few generations ago over someone converting to catholicism.

The Netherlands you say? I was just wondering because after moving from Germany to Louisina I was surprised at how many rednecks couldn't seem to accept that the Civil War was over and that they had lost, seriously, their is a guy who sells blankets with Confererate flags that say "The South Will Rise Again" and it makes me facepalm.

I'm African-American, and I have a great uncle who absolutely hates white people. I can't stand being around him, because every time I have to speak to him, he's always going on about how "the white man" did this or that, or how we should "only give business to our kind."

Ugh.

My mum doesn't like Indian people and other Asians.

All Indian are ALL Punjabi.
All Asians besides herself are Filipino.

"Oh the hospital's filled with Indian/Filipino doctors."

And? Your point?

My mom is incredibly racist against natives.
When we were moving she passed up an amazing house just because it was too close to a reserve. When I asked why she didn't want to live by a reserve (I was 9 at the time) she said it was because they would kidnap me and beat me to death.
Now that I have grown up I see how racist her comment was and now I get sort of pissed off every time she passes a prejudice remark.

I'm Russian, everyone in my family is racist, including me. You see, we Russians, we hate everyone, especially other Russians. So I guess it's not really racism if you hate everyone equally.
What?

You're Russian?

Well, either I found that out already and forgot... or not, but that's very interesting, comrade.

OT: Erm, no. Some of the people I happen to know are not that politically correct, sure, but definitely not racist.

Well considering I live in Texas I'd say about 3/4ths of my family are racist and about half my friends. Not the extreme oh all black people need to be killed racist but still racist nonetheless. I've learned to just deal with it but it's still hard being in a conversation with a chick and your wingman makes a racist comment and totally kills the mood or being out with your family somewhere and they say something racist and you just gotta grin and bear it.

My grandpa is racist, but it's built so deeply into his personality that most of the time you can't see it. It was just the way he was brought up, and it hardly shows, save that he sometimes says things like, "Well, that's what you get for putting a black in such a responsibility" and I'm like "WHAT?" and he doesn't know why I'm so upset suddenly

I have a couple Muslim-hatin uncles. The "no victory Mosque" kind.

Also, the same ones are basically the "rich, successful, white business men" so they're not to crazy about minorities.

I'm pretty sure that no one in my family is racist. So I don't have to worry about odd conversations about races.

My grandparents though are a little bit behind when it comes to gender roles. At least my one grandma is. She's not sexist, its just that she believes in the stereotypical roles of men doing the heavy labour to bring home the bacon and women working around the house and raising the kids. Kind of uncomfortable when she makes comments showing those beliefs. I wouldn't call her bigoted, just belonging to a different time.

Edit: And was I the only one to think of TMBG's "Your Racist Friend" after reading some of the comments in this thread?

I'd say my dad and I are jokingly racist, he was brought up around racism as I was to a degree, so it's how we think. But neither of us would ever seriously judge someone purely by their skin or beliefs. We joke to ourselves and friends about it but that's as far as it goes.

Well, my dad's quite racist, xenophobic, homophobic, but surprisingly, not at all sexist. My little brother is quite bad for it too.

My Grandmother is that folksy kind of racist where you don't hate the person, but for some reason their race is always a part of conversations that don't really need their race to be dropped every time you mention them.

Well, some of my uncles are. Well, they aren't racists, they're just politically incorrect and stupid.
