Any Aussies reading that even casually watch TV may have noticed this advert pop up once or twice;
Now, the ad says that the handle of a soap pump has hundreds of germs on it, so the best way to avoid this is to have a dispenser that dispenses soup without having to touch it.

Now, this would be a half decent idea, IF that, after touching the horrible, germ infested, soap pump handle, you didn't immediately wash your hands!I just pity the stupid people who get ripped off by buying this. I mean, who, in all honesty, thinks this makes any sense?! Anybody?

Haha. That's pretty funny. The sad part is people will probably fall for it. I also think it's funny that they call it a "No-Touch Hand Wash System" instead of a hands-free soap dispensor. I can't really rag on how stupid it is though. Us Americans have plenty of stupid stuff ourselves.

I always thought that too. Those ads were in UK a while ago. And those type of ads say they get rid of almost all bacteria, as if all of it was harmful, and that some of it is not in the least bit benificial to us.

Also, 'germy stuff'. Wow. Science.

I understand what you're saying, but I would have thought that using the handle of a sink would be cleaner than a soap pump, since you can shut off the water with an elbow or something (Yes, I do do this when I want to keep my hands clean).

Y'know, all of this could be solved by a having a simple bar of soap.

I'd do this too, but the way my sink is designed makes that a painful process.

Then you're clearly not trying hard enough!

...or is it one like this?

If so, I know how you feel. If you're dedicated, you can use both wrists to squeeze the handle and turn it, but you can never quite shut off the water flow. Your only option then is to go away, dry your hands, put on some latex gloves, turn the tap off while wearing them, then incinerate the gloves and dispose of the evidence.

Anyone else really fucked off almost all public toilets have dos that open inwards as you leave so you have to handle the door as opposed to being able to push it open with your hand!

Just use a paper towel or your shirt. It's what I do.

I don't get why people fall for this. It's simple; any contaminants picked up closely prior to decontaminaition are rendered null and void. The only problem arises if, suddenly, after touching the contaminated soap pump, you suddenly decide not to wash their hands, thus not decontaminating thyself!

By the way, I say decontamination now. Decontamination is cool.

i never really understood this whole hand sanatising thing. like the little bottles of hand santiser.

i wash my hands after i use the toilet and if possible before i prepare or eat food. but i dont understand how you can be so afraid of germs that you have to sanatise your hands after using an atm or touching a hand rail.

all the adds i see for it make them look like complete losers.

but OT i wonder if they actually thought when they designed that this has no real purpose but people will believe it. or they just didnt think about it at the time.

It made me laugh, but these ads really are insidious. You're not a good parent if you expose your child to germs? A lot of people seem to think that nowadays and their kids seem to get sick easily. Also, won't that 1 percent of germs not killed just have all the more room to thrive?
