I think those are for the Halloween activity going on right now. Did you click one of the houses?
They're from the thing for Halloween... those houses. If you click on one you get a badge.
I got the one for watching 7 episodes of Apocalypse Lane even though I don't watch that show. I might have clicked on them or something.

The badges I think are just another method of positive reinforcement the Escapist has conjured in order to further patronage from its community, in addition to other harmless notions such as the post count and title, and the ability to pay for frivolous account benefits.
Rest assured that soon enough you will be able to buy super-special badges within the coming year(s).

The Halloween ones, on the front page something says 13 days of halloween if you click it you'll see a bunch of houses. Click one and you'll be watch an escapist video or read an article. Each time you do this you get a badge.

Apparently you get a badge for watching/reading one of the features linked on the Halloween page even if you don't actually navigate to it that way. Which would explain why the badges seem to be appearing at random without warning. Very confusing.
