About 30 minutes ago I was talking on the phone with a freind in my University's IT building when I stopped mid-sentence to see a woman dressed as Haruhara Haruko walk by...

I was caught off guard to say the least and it got me thinking... how often does this kind of thing actually happen? Other than some asian dude who dresses as a Stormtrooper and wanders the UGA campus occasionally (according to my sister)I have never encountered someone walking around in full anime character regalia outside of costume events like Cons, parties or Halloween.

So I suppose the topic at hand is rather broad, so here's a few questions. Have you ever seen something like this before? Have you ever done this?

As long as it isn't too bizarre of a costume, I don't have a problem with it. Matter of fact, me and a couple friends are planning on doing it: one of my friends is worried that she'll look dumb/awkward cosplaying, and we're taking her out to "cosplay dinner" at a campus fast food restaurant to try to cure that. Mind, this plan is going in action near Halloween, so she won't be too uncomfortable.

I've seen it done, too. Some of the more bizarre/non-street-worthy costumes have made me do a double take, but usually I just compliment them on their costume (assuming it's a character I recognize) and move on. I go to a big college, so I've seen much stranger things than random acts of cosplay.

Never where I live.

But yeah I live in the ass end of The Netherlands.
(by that I don't mean The Netherlands are an ass end, just the corner of it where I live)

It can happen when fangroups decide to do photoshoots and meets. I've been to one during and outside of a convention before. I only technically cosplayed both time. And I say technically because I didn't really go out of my way to make the clothes, I simply wore clothes that looked close enough to work. So maybe she was heading to one of those little gatherings?

Back when I worked in Ye Old Game Shoppe I'd often see a group of young ladies dressed in their most fantastic regalia. At one point there was about ten of them and they all came in dressed as those Naruto ninjas. They might have been the least effective ninjas I've ever laid eyes on but damn, they looked mighty interesting.

I once saw two people dressed as Akatsuki members in a mall. There were no events or anything going on. Just two random people, cosplaying, in a mall.

I see it all the time. People walking around in sports jersey's and whatnot. The jersey's have the star's name on it. They're cosplaying everywhere.

My friend and I once saw a girl dressed as Lenalee from D-Gray Man in Belfast.

It was quite a good costume as well she even looked like the character herself.
