The topic says it all...never really thought about it until right now...why does my cat viciously attack my shoelaces, cables for my tv and xbox, my Warhammer 40k range ruler ( a long red kind of stringy piece of plastic with markers every inch ) and just in general anything stringy?
Random question because I'm bored-Why do cats hate string?

Because it moves and is slinky? I'm not sure. My cats rarely play with string, but they love little balls of paper.
