Iron Man
Captain America: The First Avenger

Frankly, I haven't seen Thor: The Dark World, the recent Incredible Hulk movie, or Winter Soldier. However, Thor, Iron Man 2 and 3, are at least watchable in my book. I'd say Iron Man 3 might be the weakest of them all, but trying to rank them all after the first three is a bit difficult for me. Each did something that I liked and disliked.

Anyway, Avengers is obviously the most fun and enjoyable movie and easily ranks among my all time favorite movies. Iron Man was all an around great movie that balanced fun and serious moments, and Robert Downey Jr cemented his place as Tony Stark. Meanwhile Chris Evans surprised me as Steve Rogers, and the movie did an impressive change in setting and tone, but was still a great enjoyable ride.

Honestly, Robert Downey Jr is probably the primary reason I rank Iron Man over Captain America. He's easily the most charismatic of the cast with a great screen presence. Which is saying a lot as I don't think they've made a bad casting choice yet.

This is like 'pick your favourite child' - you might have one, but you really shouldn't say. I think The Avengers is the closest any film's got to the original Star Wars, in terms of a sense of large scale cinematic awe and outright escapist perfection (even if it does have some issues). Too early to really put Winter Soldier in 2nd, but Cap is my favourite Avenger, and it really was impressive stuff.

The Avengers
Cap 2 The Winter Soldier
Cap: The First Avenger
Iron Man
Iron Man 3
Thor
Thor The Dark World
Iron Man 2
The Incredible Hulk

I see the Norton Hulk film as being the black sheep. In fact, I just try to forget it exists - it feels like it was created in the dark days of pre-MCU (although I like that Abomination got mentioned in Cap 2). Iron Man 2 is, for me at least, hands down the worst and messiest film of the MCU thus far; I've actually genuinely watched it and fast forwarded all the 'villain' nonsense, and it's a far more entertaining and less annoying film that way.

Never keen on Thor in the comics (apart from in The Ultimates), and I want to fire laser beams into my eyes every time Nat Portman or gorram Kat Dennings are onscreen. The fact that Sif isn't the primary love interest in the Thor films makes my brain hurt...

Here's mine:
The Avengers
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor 2: The Dark World
Iron Man
Thor
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3

I'm going to discount the Incredible Hulk as I can barely remember it and don't see it as major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but as I recall it wasn't that bad and I enjoyed it maybe on the same level as Thor.

Captain America 2: Winter Soldier = Avengers Assemble
Iron Man
Iron Man 3
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man 2
Thor 2: TDW
Thor = The Incredible Hulk

Captain America 2 is a very good film; as good as The Avengers but in a different way.

I quite liked Iron Man 3 a lot more than I feel I should have but that is only if they can remedy the whole plot twist hole that has been dug for Stark's greatest foe if not it can end up being very disappointing given what Iron Man could become in stage 3 with a proper villain (this rate I see Iron Man going down the suit wars route with major nations catching up to Tony's Mk 3 design). That aside I think it has the best super showdown that Marvel has produced (even if it had a disappointing conclusion).

Anything below Captain America 1 isn't such a bad movie but more meh. Its not that they're bad films as such but more forgettable or a watch once to catch up with what they're doing in the lead up to the next Avengers film.

Sadly, I still haven't seen a few of these...I've only seen the last half hour or 45 minutes of Iron Man 3 and haven't seen a moment of Thor: Dark World or, Captain America: Winter Soldier. That being said, I can still compile a list:

The Avengers
The Incredible Hulk
Captain America: The First Avenger
Thor
Iron Man
Iron Man 2

That being said though, I would rank Blade higher than Thor and Punisher: War Zone above The Avengers. I can't wait to see Guardians and still plan on seeing Winter Soldier and Dark Worlds I just haven't had the time, money, etc to check out those two yet...and I've seen the ending of Iron Man 3 and probably won't care for it based on what I've seen of it.

The Avengers
Iron Man
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Incredible Hulk
Thor: The Dark World
Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3

Haven't seen Winter Soldier.

Avengers made me feel like a kid again. That's quite an achievement considering the cynical grump I am nowadays. Pure popcorn-munching blockbuster spectacle. Some people dislike it for that reason, I think it's a strength.

Iron Man made me a fan of the character. Despite his power I always saw his comic book version as a second-stringer, just not as interesting as others. Same with Captain America. That changed when the movies were so well done.

I'm a Hulk fan from way back. I dabbled in half a dozen other titles, but Hulk and Spider-Man were the two books I read religiously. I identify with Banner/Hulk more than any other character. I have quite a temper, I have spent most of my life furious at one thing or another. Everyone is afraid of Hulk, and nobody can tell him what to do. The notion of just smashing everything in my way has always been appealing. Since I've never been well-liked, being feared would be a nice substitute. I'm also a smart guy who got bullied and just wanted to be left alone. Given all that, I'm predisposed to see anything Hulk-related in the best possible light. While I think Avengers had by far the best on-screen portrayal of the character, I've enjoyed everything from the old Bixby/Ferrigno show through twenty years of cartoons to both big-budget movies.

I thought the Iron Man sequels were not very good. A villain I never heard of, with gear inferior to Tony's, just didn't seem like a credible threat.

The Thor sequel seemed too busy, plus it used the universe-ending-weapon cliche that I've always found lazy and offensive. I thought it would have made a better film to have evil dark elf guy raise an army from several realms to make war on an unprecedented scale, and/or discover a cache of weapons more powerful than Mjolnir. The notion of whole worlds ravaged by supervillain warfare is more compelling to me than the end of everything.

How are people ranking the first Captain America movie higher than anything? It literally had nothing.

None of these movies were particularly good, but the Iron Man movie can at least stand on downey's acting.

Cap. Am however feels just...awful. The Thor movies did at the very least help establish a larger universe and introduce some interesting characters.

The Avengers
Thor
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man
Iron Man 2 (sue me)
Iron Man 3

Haven't seen the rest.

I don't enjoy the Iron man films much (I saw 2 and 3 for free on plane flights) Robert downey Jr is great as iron man. But the villains are all shit and it always turns out well for Tony who is a bit of an insufferable rich prick.

I think I liked it a bit more because as a British person the idea of killing Nazis is very appealing. As you said the characters were all quite bland but not as bland as Iron man's villains. And Red skull was quite cool.

The idea of killing Nazis is very appealing?

I don't even know how to respond to this, haha.

Why would being British make you like that idea more? Why are you not satisfied with every war game or movie out there? Why are you satisfied with surface-level insight into WW2?

The movie sets up a good vs evil premise that is netiher historically accurate nor interesting.

Hugo Weaving's a great actor and he felt underutilized, shame that they didn't do more with his character.

I think you need to have studied WW2 in British educational institutes to get it mate. If you get taught about a group of people for around 7 years solid, I can guarantee you will be so bored of them that you will only enjoy seeing them. If they are being blown up or smacked in the head with a big dumb shield.

I loved Iron Man. Hated 2, liked 3.
Thor 2 and Cap 2 were fun, at least compared to Thor 1 and Cap 1.
Didn't like Avengers very much.
Didn't watch Hulk.

I found it really easy to rank some and very difficult to choose between others, but...

Number one is probably:

The Avengers

Then it's:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Thor
Thor: The Dark World

Probably in that order, but it'd likely change depending on which I've seen most recently.

Then:

Iron Man
Captain America: The First Avenger

And then a BIG step down to

Iron Man 2
Iron Man 3

Despite being a massive Marvel fan, I've somehow managed to miss The Incredible Hulk altogether. Otherwise though, I'm a big fan of all the MCU movies minus the Iron Man sequels.

I'm sorry to butt in, but are you seriously complaining about historical accuracy in a Marvel movie? You do realise that the Marvel Universe is basically an alternate reality, right? It's supposed to appear similar to our world, but it's by no means the same.

Iron Man (almost a great film on its own right)
Both Captain Americas (they are different movies, sure)
Iron Man 3 (the comedy makes it rank higher, I was laughing my ass off at the Mandarin twist)
The Avengers (it has lots of stuff that's simply embarrassing)
Iron Man 2
Hulk
Thor (worst action out of them all)

I haven't seen the Dark World

With the exception of Iron Man 3, Thor the Dark World and Winter soldier, the Marvel films are in this order, best to worst

Iron Man
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Thor
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2

I know it's not popular opinion, but I actually prefer Ang Lee's Hulk over the Incredible one.

As for the others, I just need to sit down and watch them, and I will, for I will not watch Avengers 2 without knowing what's going on.

I'm having the hardest time deciding if Avengers is still better than Winter Soldier. Both films felt like achievements. I've decided to keep Avengers for now.

1. Avengers
2. Winter Soldier
3. Iron Man
4. First Avenger
5. Iron Man 3
6. Thor 2
7. Thor
8. Incredible Hulk
9. Iron Man 2

I feel it's necessary to point out that I don't think any of these are bad movies. Some are better than others, but none are bad.

1. The Avengers (Because despite its simplicity nothing will beat the feeling of seeing all these characters together for the first time)
2. Iron Man (Introduction to one of the best characters in the whole franchise)
3. Iron Man 3 (I really don't see why people hate this one, it's funny, it has good action, good character development etc. I thought the Mandarin twist was really clever too.)
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
5. Captain America: The First Avenger
6. Thor
7. Thor: The Dark World (I like both the Thors, but they both get dragged down by a boring supporting cast and the fact that Loki is so interesting that Laufey and Malekith come across as utterly flat characters as a result)
8. Iron Man 2 (This one isn't really THAT bad either)
9. The Incredible Hulk (This film feels like a plot thread that went missing, this version of Bruce Banner has nothing in common with the one in The Avengers, the continuity doesn't match up in several areas. The Avengers only references two parts of this story, the fact that The Hulk was in New York and a deleted scene of banner attempting suicide.)
