Those two stand alone in their own tier. While both have plenty of technical flaws and nitpicks, they're structurally sound films that set the template for blockbuster film making for decades to come. Fantastic, primal storytelling.
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Force Awakens
Both very wobbly films with long stretches of questionable material propped up by some of the strongest set pieces in the entire series. Luke vs Vader in ROTJ is arguably the series pinnacle, but Rey vs Kylo Ren in the snow isn't far behind. Absolutely gorgeous sequence start to finish.
5. The Last Jedi
6. Rogue One
Both deeply flawed films full of issues. Paper thin characters, terrible pacing, dubious writing, the list goes on and on. Jedi had the higher high notes and lower low notes, and scrapes into 5th place on the strength of the former.

Ed Wood level film-making. Complete embarrassments from start to finish. Among the worst films made in the modern era, demonstrating extreme ineptitude in almost every element of their construction.

And at least Attack of the Clones reduced his screentime to a non-character, and Duel of the Fates was played in the other movies so its not special to Phantom Menace anymore.
I find it a watchable boring slog and its more consistant to lead up to Revenge of the Sith, The Phantom Menace I still think its a complete different kind of movie.Ezekiel said:

Because my girlfriend?s son is a spoiled rotten brat, we took him to a movie of his choice this weekend, and he wanted to see The Last Jedi, so we saw it. As a non-fan of Star Wars who doesn?t get the hype and thinks they?re mostly silly, this one was really good, easily my favorite of all those I?ve seen. It worked for me as a standalone sci-fi movie; I don?t know or care about the canon; I don?t care what happened before or after in which galaxy or how far away it was; I don?t care ?who shot first,? but I DO like spectacle, and TLJ delivered. The writing was a lot more tongue in cheek which was pretty refreshing. I think the Star Wars films never sat well with me because they seemed to take themselves too seriously, but the uncharacteristic touches of humor in TLJ, particularly from an aged and world weary Luke Skywalker, really let me in. I think I enjoyed it more than my gf?s son!

when the lady who took command of the rebel ship after everyone else escaped turned it around and ?light speeded? it into the massive Empire dreadnaught; that was incredible.
So yeah, I can honestly say that, in my humblest of opinions, I?ve wasted two and a half hours on worse and of all the Star Wars I?ve seen, TLJ is the only one I?m interested in seeing again. (I should probably say as of a couple days ago, I?d only seen the original trilogy the first two prequels.)

I am of the opinion that they should be watched in the order Rogue One, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi.
Watching the films in that order makes Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader the central character of the series. The Empire, Vader and the stakes are introduced in Rogue One, A New Hope plays out the major battle and introduces Luke, Empire Strikes Back delivers the series big plot twist, then Clones/Sith play out Anakin's downfall and establish that Vader was telling the truth.
Then Jedi starts and the possibility of Luke falling to the dark side is much more prescient, having just watched Anakin cutting down innocents en-maase, Luke walking in dressed in black and force choking the first people he meets takes on an even darker tone.
Also, watching the movies in the order elminates Midichlorians and limits exposure to Jar Jar Binks, which are positives in my book, even if it does mean no Liam Neeson.
I'm not a fan of the two JJ movies so far, the Thrawn Trilogy of books tell a better story so far.

I only like the originals and even they descend in quality so i wouldn't describe myself as a fan. It's more that I found it quite shallow. It's a problem I find with a lot of high budget modern films which contain a lot of action. They never seem to do enough to make me care about characters or stakes involved, so when the action scenes happen, I don't really care. I don't get very much out of pure spectacle.Xprimentyl said:
