Greetings, people. I'm going on a short tirade here, so bear with me.
You see, I've always been a PC gamer first, console gamer second. I got my first PC in 1992, I was 12 years old, and I was hooked. For the next decade and a half, I played PC games almost exclusively. Sure, I had consoles, but I only played them for the exclusives, or in the rare times when I didn't feel like playing a PC game.
But recently all that changed. I am sitting here writting this, months after playing my last PC game. And as I wait, Battlenet is updating Starcraft II. It's been going for, oh... about 15 minutes. And apparently, my Steam account has been "disabled", with no explanation whatsoever. I contacted Steam over and over again, but they never, not ONCE, told me why the account was disabled. I went straight to Valve and Relic (makers of Dawn of War II, the game I was TRYING to plaY) who both told me their hands were tied.
So, yeah. One system is updating. Steam locked me out of a ton of games I bought legally without so much as a "hey, what's up?". Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Empire: Total War, The Orange Box, Order of War and Dawn of War 2: Gold Edition are all just REALLY expensive coasters now. And to think I was one of those idiots who went "nah, Steam is pretty good!" when my friend told me he distrusted such services!
And to put the final nail in the coffin, the one and only PC game I bought this year (aside from Starcraft 2) crashes to desktop more often than not. I meet the game's system requirements, and then some. The developer's response? They're aware of the issue, but hey, don't worry, they're working on it!
So, enough. I'm done. I'm sick and tired of jumping through hurdles to play games. Long gone are the days when I bought a game, popped the CD in, and played it. I'll use the PC to play the Total War series, the first Dawn of War, and a couple of other OLDER games, but all I can say is, thank fuck my girlfriend saw fit to buy a PS3 late last year!
It was a good, fun ride, but this bullshit is getting too much for me, as a consumer and a gamer, to bear.
Sorry for the rant, but hey... it's 2:18am, Starcraft 2 is STILL updating, and I had to let off some steam.
