aiming is a fucking joke especially with a sniper rifle that does stay still and when you have a clear aim, the gun just moves.
It's an RPG. Put points into sniper rifles. Crouch when aiming. Seriously, snipers become completely usable after maybe three or four levels.
It's also not really a cover shooter. If you absolutely need to be in cover, you're doing it wrong. Stick some shield battery upgrades in your armour, run around more, and for God's sake use CC powers. Not just yours either. Your squadmates are sodding useless, but they're at least good as an extra battery of powers. Just take Liara and Wrex and lift or singularity everything you see.
Mass Effect combat is flawed, and far from perfect but it's way more functional than you're making out. Stop trying to play it like Gears of War.
I've never played Gears of War so I have no clue how to play like it. Thanks for the advice though cause i worked out that I really have to level up my shields and armour so I don't get killed by one shot. I admit some squadmates are useless cause I had Kaiden shooting at the ceiling for 20 mins when i kept instructing him to DESTROY THAT FUCKING DRONE!!!. Then i get killed and Wrex is dead next to me.
A big part of it is also what class you play is. This is, of course, opinion, but I found soldier boring as shit and actually not as easy as all weapon and armour skills might suggest. Infiltrators might not get as heavy armour, but they still get the immunity power
and they get electronics, which lets you boost your shields into the realms of deity. Adepts may only get light armour, but they get barrier, which is basically easy mode tanking once you've got a few points in it.
Trust me, after a couple of hours and some carefully invested skill points, you'll be dying
less than you would in 2 or 3.
Yeah, ME1's biggest letdown is probably the AI. I will admit to feeling some frustration at entering generic warehouse map #2 and watching the enemy AI backpedal in figure of 8s around the room, firing and yelling at me, while my squadmates take up position either side of a door before proceeding to turn completely around and fire bursts into the wall.
And if it was fighting drones that made you rage quit, then I take everything back. Those swarms of rocket drones on the Luna mission are OP as shit, and not at all fun to fight as. Especially if you don't have access to overload and sabotage. The shitty, next to useless autosave feature is another great cause of rage quits.
I also apologise for the Gears of War comment, it feels like an appeal to the lowest common denominator of petty insults, and I also completely missed the fact you'd already played 2 and 3. It is, I would think, actually pretty reasonable to expect the first game to play similarly.
