With the gun pointed at himself, I can only hope the negotiator is trying to talk him into pulling the trigger, but logically, I doubt it. Too bad, easy solution to the problem.

I thought only the boyfriend died and the other two were just wounded.

Correct, the other two are alive and doing well (as far as you can be well after being shot...) last I heard on the news. Still, he's an asshole.
