Music is like candy, ya gotta throw away the wrappers.

Well ok not really. I prefer rappers like Bliss n Eso or maybe Fort Minor. Whenever I hear people singing rapping and saying stuff like "I'm the real deal" or "Fuck, bitches, fuck, ******" then I immediately want to end their lives to make the world a better place.

Bliss n Eso songs just seem like they're reminiscing about fun times, or old stories of the past. They wouldn't be caught dead (from the songs I've heard, not sure if I've heard them all) acting like posers like Eminem or 50 Cent.

Ones of the reason I love rap/hip-hop is the diversity of the lyrics I honestly do believe there is something out there for everyone. I found this song the other day and this just really spoke to me

I love it, mainly stuff by Kanye West, Tinie Tempah, and No Malice, but I'm open to anything. I do sometimes get a bit tired of songs about money and women though. That's when I listen to Lecrae. The man has phenomenal technique, you guys should check out his stuff. A word of warning though, it is Christian Hip-Hop, and it's very uncompromising, so if you already have strong negative opinions on the subject of religion, this stuff probs won't resonate with you like it does with me.

I used to listen to a lot of rap before. Not so much today, but I know that the rap genre is way more than what you hear on the radio.

Here are two tracks I stumbled across lately.

Well lets see if I can explain myself with this. How my brain identifies differences in music is not what changes often in Rap music. My brain doesn't identify the little changes in how most Rap dose change. Rap music dose change, but the changes are not the ones that my brain identifies.

What I mean by that is Rap sound the same to me, it might not to you. But that's because our brains are not identifying the same thing. Everyone has a different way to view the world, I just don't see rap in the same way as you might.

Did that make any sense at all?

I don't see rap getting any more rap than any other genre. Usually new things are scary and becomes hated just for that, but it's been around long enough now to have settled in.

I hear techno and dub step still copping the most flakk though.

Mostly because it's content is lacking (typically about the same thing over and over), or is painfully overdone with poor lyrics and a terrible vocalist.

Plus, as someone mentioned before - They are almost always inferior to parodies/fun rap songs.

Here's an example of quality:

I prefer jokey stuff like Mc Chris and some of Eminem's work I just don't like normal rap since it's usually about boring shit like hookers and getting shot. Sure some of this stuff could be about it but it's funny so meh.

I just cannot comprehend the mindset of anyone who can honestly say they don't enjoy that track.

Like any other genre of music, anyone who says they don't like any of it simply hasn't heard enough.

rap is not the problem, its the part when nothing constructive is done with it, thats the problem. talking about bitches and swag gets us nowhere... i do like Eminem though, for the most part he does have something to say.

Don't know who in the Escapist, but someone showed me this, and I still love this song.

It's a little different [for me at least] and I like that.
you might really dig his Skelethon project. His most recent which seems to be the most on par with that track you posted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dbd4h1kaFlY

the fact they have never properly listened to it ?
pretty much that

I was the same. Stupid little 13 year old metalhead kid who spouted such crap about hip hop being an awful genre. Then I grew up and checked its nuances out for myself. Some people just never do.

If none of these change your mind I'd just give up.

Cultural bias definitely plays a part. If you're white and from the suburbs and you listen to hip hop it can be harder to identify with a lot of the content in mainstream hip hop songs, plus you get the added stigma of being associated with those gangsta-ass thug whiggers who have way too much access to their parents disposable income. At least that's how it was for me until I started doing a bit more research on the internet and found a whole other side to the genre that eschewed many of the tropes found in mainstream hip hop and found a lot of intelligent and talented artists out there. I'm actually of the opinion that hip hop has long replaced punk as being the voice of the poor and the genre to expose social inequalities.

Anyways here's some of what I've been enjoying from this year.

I'm so depressed that Kendrick Lamar's debut studio album was so watered down in terms of content when compared to Section .80 :(
