So, I was taking a train into London the other day and waiting for the inevitably late train. While wandering along the platform trying to keep myself sane I began thinking about the live rail. We are all told to stay away from it (perhaps it makes your bowels instantly invert themselves or somthing?). It occured to me that if I were to jump onto the live rail, with both feet at the same time that I would be fine.

What are your thoughts? Would I be perfectly fine or turned into a form of burnt crispy bacon?

My dad used to work on train lines, and he and I agree that if you did, in theory, you'd be fine. Something about overheads and.. Stuff. I don't completely get it.

I wouldn't recommend actually trying it though. Best not to tempt fate/irony gods.

My grandfather jumped on the live rail when he was 8 years old in the 30's. He suffered nervous system damage, some memory loss, and had to learn how to write again.

I have no idea if today's technology would do the same.

Provided you hit JUST that one rail and NOTHING ELSE at all, you should be fine, but if you tag anything else at all, well, electrical burns are pretty nasty. You have been warned.

Well electricity arcs, and the amount of power would easily go through a pair of smart looking work shoes. I wouldn't try it.

Besides, I hate people who jump on train tracks. Just because they have had enough it doesn't mean they have the right to make everyone else late. I remember working in London for a few weeks, almost every day at least one station announced 'The train has been delayed due to a fatality on the line'.

I just thought of this:

I wouldn't want to bloody test it.

But reminds me of seeing a dog jump on the tracks at a platform once and yelping really loud but it didn't die and seemed alright afterwards.

OMG I thought I was the only one.

Everytime I saw the tube posters of stick men being killed on the tracks with the slogan "Last year there were X Fatalities" that image always came into my head.

One of my more stupid friends tried it last time we went up to London and was a bit pissed at the time. He was fine although he only did it briefly, though it could explain why he forgot to switch trains later. Ah good times.

For it to have any chance of working, your feet would have to land almost touching. The further apart your legs are the more likely it is that the electricity will jump up one leg, cook your balls, then leave the other foot.

Mythbuster's did peeing on an elecrified rail, and they couldn't get it to spark until Adam basically had his junk right against the rail.

They tell you not to do it because the government is actually denying you the pleasure of actually doing it!

i'm not sure as your shoes/trainers would be rubber and rubber doesn't conduct electricity. it may be a bit uncomfortable but i reckon you would be mostly OK.
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT AND TRY IT TO PROVE ME WRONG!!!

Oh fuck me, I thought this was a topic about bacon.

You'd be pretty well burnt where you touched but other than that you'd look pretty much the same, just dead. (Note: I get all my info from CSI:)
