Neoseeker reports [http://www.neoseeker.com/news/12134-planescape-torment-baldurs-gate-icewind-dale-reissues-coming-nov-13] that Interplay is re-releasing its Infinity Engine based games: the Baldur's Gate series, and Icewind Dale series, and Planescape: Torment. This seems to be a Europe-only release, with the games already appearing on Amazon.co.uk [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plane-Scape-Torment-PC-DVD/dp/B002TOKQIG] (the U.S. Amazon site just has an independent seller trying to sell an old copy of the game for $188.00 [http://www.amazon.com/Planescape-Torment-Pc/dp/B00002EPZ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1256993038&sr=8-1]).
Awesome news if this is true, especially for Torment, since the game is hard to find yet in demand by the many gamers who missed it when it was first published (see the above reference to $188.00).
I couldn't find an official source for why it wasn't being released in the U.S., but 'net speculation suggests that Atari and Wizards of the Coast are taking issue with the re-release, much as Bethesda did with Interplay's Fallout Trilogy [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/94655-Bethesda-Sues-Interplay-Over-Fallout-MMO]. Atari has exclusive license from Wizards to release games with the Dungeons and Dragons trademark, although I am not clear on Interplay's rights to re-publish games it certainly had the license to publish the first time around.
If this has already been discussed here, feel free to lock or merge; I couldn't find it, but my search-fu may have been week. Thought it would be of interest to the RPG fans.
I gotta say, I'm replaying Torment right now (original printing), and while it looks a little shabby and runs a little clunky compared to some newer games, it's still a damn fine, extremely compelling RPG. Still certainly the best game writing I've ever seen (IMHO, of course).
