The whole reason we play most of the games we do is because we like being able to do things that we otherwise could never do in real life.
This is true. Games are a form of escapism. A few years back I went through a massive depression, and used games as a way to forget my problems and, in a manner of speaking, be someone else for a few hours a day. Unfortunately, it led to gaming becoming an addiction for me, but the point sort of stands.
And just to note, I got counselling for the depression, got over the addiction and now play for fun rather than wallowing in grief.
