Anime:
  • [li]Baccano! [http://myanimelist.net/anime/2251/Baccano!] (might feel a bit confusing at first but everything will come together in the end)[/li]
    [li]Elfen Lied [http://myanimelist.net/anime/226/Elfen_Lied] (popular and for a good reason)[/li]
[li]Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni [http://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni] (don't let the first couple episodes and the artstyle scare you away; I didn't really like Kai and haven't watched Rei yet)[/li]
    [li]Mononoke [http://myanimelist.net/anime/2246/Mononoke] (don't let the artstyle scare you away)[/li]
[li]Monster [http://myanimelist.net/anime/19/Monster] (pretty long and sometimes it might feel like nothing is happening but I recommend that you stick it with till the end)[/li]

Manga:
  • [li]20th Century Boys [http://myanimelist.net/manga/3/20th_Century_Boys] (a.. um.. AWESOME)[/li]
    [li]21th Century Boys [http://myanimelist.net/manga/743/21st_Century_Boys] (sequel to 20th Century Boys)[/li]
[li]Alive! [http://myanimelist.net/manga/965/Alive!] (all I remember about this is that I thought it was good)[/li]
[li]Berserk [http://myanimelist.net/manga/2/Berserk] (gruesome, full of gore, awesome art and one of the best mangas ever)[/li]
[li]Dorohedoro [http://myanimelist.net/manga/1133/Dorohedoro] (don't know what so say about this, check it out yourself)[/li]
[li]Doubt [http://myanimelist.net/manga/5293/Doubt] (this was pretty good but it loses some of its impact when read in one go)[/li]
I've not really seen any of them bar Elfen Lied... I thought of it going into this thread but I really wouldn't class it as a horror... it's more a supernatural action anime.

Either way Elfen Lied is one of the best animes out there.

Persona: Trinity Soul
You don't HAVE to play the games to watch the series, as it's an entirely new cast and whatnot. The two have almost no connection

Hmmmm, this tough.

I think these anime are horror-ish:

Mnemosyne, Blood The Last Vampire (movie, not the series), Elfen Lied, Kure-nai, Kurozuka, Memories (Magnetic Rose), Perfect Blue, Paprika, and all 3 Higurashi/Umineko series.
My opinion, avoid Perfect Blue. I understand it's suppose to be a mindfuck, but c'mon! Felt like it was going somewhere, then gave me a curveball that, well, screwed me up, royally.

Mononoke, definitely. Perhaps one of the greatest shows out there in my humble opinion. It can be seriously confusing at points, but is absolutely worth the watch.
Mnemosyne was pretty good, though it was riddled with fanservice. Then again, that's not really anything to complain about herpdeederp.
Paranoia Agent was another great one, along with Ergo Proxy.

Paranoia Agent was a good suspense thriller, and at least changed it up enough to keep itself feeling new.

For Manga, The Dreaming or Alive! Are really good. Also the Higurashi one.

For anime, Elfin Lied, Higuraashi, Umineiko (sequeal-ish to Higurashi. Created by Higurashi creator) And I guess the Dead Space animated movie counts?

I tried out Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, but it kept on dragging itself out, and rarely showed off the truly great parts of itself. The psycho esque scenes were pretty fr:king sweet though.

Yeah, I really didn't like the second season, or the 4 episode OVA that followed it, but the first season is amazingly awesome, regardless of the fact that it makes no sense.

Also, I've seen Monster, and it's really good, but it's not so much Horror as it is a suspense thriller.
I was still somewhat fond of Kai [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.187959-Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni-Kai-When-they-Cry-2-user-review], despite it leading the show in a less unique and enthralling direction (which would be hard to keep up if any kind of solution was to be acheived, but I would've liked to see more seasons like the first before Kai), but the 5 Rei OVAs were indeed abominable.

Thanks for clearing up Monster being in the suspense thriller genre rather than a horror anime. Still a must-watch it seems though.

I loved that series, was really weird but in a fantastic way. My favourite episode was the one with the "suicide club" that was rather good despite being one of the less strange episodes.
