I geuss this counts as an edit but I want more answers so here is another post. Borderlands is has multyplayer so it doesn't count. My pc sucks so I would only get dragon age if it's good on consoles and I don't know if it is. I have mass effect, infamous and bioshock. I played dead space and hated it so not that. I don't mean a good singleplayer, I mean singleplayer only.
Well Borderlands is still fun even without multiplay. I had plenty of fun, its a completely different feel. If you want purely exclusive singplayer games go for something from Bethsoft. Most new games are going to have multiplay involved, DA:O is probably the only game in extremely recent memory that has exclusive single player. Again also The Saboteur, it is pretty much every sandbox game that has been recently made all rolled into one.

Godfather is another one. Red faction Guerilla. It all really depends on how recent your saying here. Also Dead Space annoyed the piss out of me too. On that subject go back in time and play System Shock 2. That is pretty much Dead Space and Bioshock with worse graphics.

If you want RTS. Supreme Commander, uhh CnC whatever number is the most recent. These arent brand spankin new but they arent old either. How about uhh World in Conflict.

For a hard game maybe that ninja gaiden thing (I never played it however). I mean if you want super recent as in the last month, no there is no real extremely hard games. You can have a good experiance with it even if it is not tremendously hard and to me the Saboteur is hard. Its not brutal and hair pulling difficult.

If you want extremely hard maybe Stalker? If you want cheeky and relatively simple try World of Goo or maybe Plants vs Zombies. Again it all really comes down to how recent your talking and what you want. Also it really comes to what you are gonna take out of the game.

I can speak mostly praise for the saboteur so far. The only reason I keep coming back to it is because it is the most recent game I can think of that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Whoops. Another edit like this ( reason for not quoting: I'm doing this on an I touch and I'm lazy) I played the everlasting shit out of fallout 3 and I have dead rising.

You're off to a great start.

I'm going to fall back on Red Dead Redemption. Look it up. You will have to wait a while, though.

I want to get assasins creed 2 but their doesn't seem to be replay value.
...

The dlc for ac2 sounds tempting but it reminds me of my second problem. Difficulty. A big problem with ac1 was difficulty. Way too easy. Is the second harder?
Maybe we're thinking of different games here, but I found the first Assassin's Creed plenty difficult when it got to the point where the guards would attack me on sight with no provocation. Still haven't finished it, in fact.

AC2, then... yeah, that's a fair bit easier. At least, what I've done so far. Think I'm about three quarters of the way through it and haven't had much in the way of trouble yet. As for replay value: I can see myself continuing to play it after the end of the game to go for 100% completion, then I can imagine playing it through again just because the story is so good.

Wow. Looks good on you.

Im really not to sure. MW2 single was pretty good but rather short. If you have not heard any hype about Fable 2 then I suggest that. wow, Im at a lost. I cannot think of many other games.

Oh yeah, there are the Half life depending on how far back you mean. and Mercs 2, tho I heard it was shite.

You must admit, he does have a point. Fallout 3 is an easy 20+ hours of gameplay, all single-player, and it's SO. MUCH. FUN.

I am currently doing a metagame playthrough; I'm trying to beat the whole game without firing a shot - melee and unarmed only.

I die a lot.

Well, Fallout 3 is a lot more combat-centric than 1 and 2.

[small]... and a lot shittier.[/small]

I had trouble finding replay value for Batman however going though it a second time on hard (the attack notification is turned off) to be really enjoyable. Also I had a blast going through all the challenge rooms (a lot of the fun is seeing how low you can get you time or how high you can get your combo).

Hmm... How about a game from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series? They are pc only but most pcs should be able to handle at least the first in the series. They do contain a multiplayer mode but it is virtually non-existent. Good length of game for a lower price than most games out there.

If not that then possibly Metro 2033 when it comes out next April. No multiplayer and a completely story driven single player. Looks to be a nice experience.

Leaving th Russian FPS genre for a second, if you want a truly open world experience try Mount and Blade. An RPG/RTS with ABSOLUTELY no main story. The player is left completely up to their own designs. A bit of a learning curve at the beginning but if you stick with it it can be quite entertaining. You can also have the difficulty anywhere from easy to insanely difficult. It's also on the PC but virtually any computer can run it.

I found GUN to be quite good, but if we're going by recent I had a lot of fun with Batman: Arkham Asylum, while it's not the longest I found it had good replay value for me.

But otherwise Fallout 3 is probably a good bet like others are saying too :)

Bioshock, 2nd is coming soon.
Half Life 2 with episodes.

If you're into RPGs there's Mass Effect and Dragon age. Fallout 3.

-Dragon Age Origins (works very well on the PS3but according to Angry Joe, the Xbox 360 version has an overhead view, instead of typical third person view )
-Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time (although pretty easy even on the "hard" and "challenging" settings)
-Torchlight (I haven't tried it but it was made by the genius creators of Diablo and Hellgate: London)
-Hellgate London (I know it's not new, but it is a great game and you can find it for $4-$10 on Ebay, which is the only place you will find it because the compnay that made it, Flagship Studios, went under)
-Assassin's Creed 2 (great game, not particularly difficult though)
-Fallout 3 (DLC's well worth the money)
-Oblivion
-Morrowind
-infamous
-God of War Collection
-Half-Life Series (will work fine on your computer- i know because mine is also a piece of junk and it runs fine on mine)
-Portal (great game, and once you get near end it becomes insanely hard(curse you chamber 18!)
-Crackdown (not recent but it's an incredible game)
-Painkiller
-Spore (again, my computer also sucks so it should be fine)(also, sharing creations doesn't count as multiplayer)

You might not consider some of these "recent" but they are all very good

fallout 3 is pritty i had loads of fun when i was roaming the waste but get the game of year addition because i think you get all the dlc with that one, oblivion is good if you dont mind people in the game to have mental disorders, owe dragon age is still ment to good on the xbox or ps3 its just that the graphics arnt as sharpe and i think the layout has been change to suit a controller rather than a keybourd and a mouse i dont know personaly because i still to play the game myself just trying to find a big pottion of time to spend on it but my mate paul said that he fount it to be a game that really sucked him in and could be playing for hours on end with relising.

Brutal Legend, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Fallout 3, Uncharted 2, Dead Space, Resident Evil 5, The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess (not really new, but its awesome), Super Mario Galaxy (and 2 when it comes out), Gears of War 2, Pikmin 2, Rock Band 2, Assassins Creed 2, Left for Dead 2 (pretty good single player, but the campaign is better with actual people), Skate 2, Harvest moon: Animal Parade (its an aquired taste).

There are so many, it cant be hard to find a few you like.

My friend, try Half-Life 2 plus Episodes 1 and 2. It is by far one of the best single player experiences you can have.
