Really, what's the purpose of arguing over games?

What is the point in arguing about anything relating to opinions? They rarely change anyone's mind and usually further entrench them in their beliefs, rendering the entire argument counter-productive to begin with. I generally try to avoid discussions about game preference, personal or political ideology, and conspiracy theories.

I just recently got into a heated argument yesterday about voiced MC and SP's in JRPG's. he was asying that he wanted every JRPG to have SP's and I said I didn't want it in my favorite franchise (the Tales franchise) unless it is a spin off (Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology1,2,3,4 and Tales of Xillia 2)and he wouldn't meat me in the middle ground at all. in the end I destroyed my front door, my bed room door, my bed, and a few of my electronics. the thing is, I prefer games that are more books or movie than actually a game, this is why I was attracted to not only the Tales franchise but JRPG's in the first place. I understand that not every JRPG has to be like what I like, as Jim once said "there is no perfect pasta sauce, but pasta sauces". I understand that having a protagonist that speaks takes out the "Role Play" part of JRPG's, but in the end does it matter? does every JRPG need to have voiced MC's or SP's? no, so why get all up in arms and not budge on meeting people half way?

Any ideas?
people are ungodly deficient in understanding that other people have a different viewpoint, and things may or may not suit them as well as your choice, and get hung up on the idea that they can 'fix' you or otherwise improve your opinion, as if such a thing was possible.. humans are a subjective race, we do not all act like computers and have one job that has a perfect algorithmic solution, thus analysing what other people do, like and want from a game is hard, or impossible.

So, generally speaking imposing your opinion on other people's opinion is the real problem, and highly ironic.
