That's a little bit ridiculous. My parents had a pretty resonable system when I was a kid- I could play any game, but anything with an 18 rating was banned from the house, and anything with a 15 rating had to be vetted by my parents.

Of course, now that I'm older than 18, I'm allowed whatever games I want.

9 year old kids playing it can get the wrong idea from the games they play, my parents allowed me though when i was 10 to play 12+ games and when i was 13 16+ and it turned out very good

My parents were only worried about games with sex in them. So, it wasn't an issue. But then again, when I was younger my parents wouldn't have let me play violent games, not that they even show an interest.

It depends on the kid as well. I played alot of crazy shit when I was that age, maybe a couple of years older and I turned out *cleans blood from knife* just fine.

You. Are. Overreacting. He's 9, his mind won't be warped by it. In fact, mind warping is next to time warping (LETS DO THE TIME WARP, YEAH!) on the list of impossible things morons will believe.
*singing* Lets do the mind warp agaiin *end singing*

If you write lyrics for this version and make a music video of it I will try to find it.
...Or you can just send them to me and I will try to sing them & made a fool out of myself.

OT: Isn't this kind of evidence for a no win argument? they don't let kids play violent games and they're over protective, they let kids play violent video games and they're bad parents. For all you know the kid and his dad use the games as bonding material and as a means to explain difficult topics like sex and the consequences of violent or illegal activity. I mean, it is possible right?

I've been playing GTA since I was 5 or 6. About 10 years now and I still have yet to beat someone up randomly, hit a prostitute, hold a gun or steal a car.
And despite all those years of gore filled games I have yet to cut somebody on purpose or attack somebody with a sharp object other than a pen. Or do anything illegal other than downloading some music.

Damn those mind warping video games.

I've been playing M games since I was 9 and I'm not a serial killer... It depends on the kid playing them. If he takes everything seriously, he shouldn't play those games period, but if he's a normal guy, who the hell cares?

I'll be honest, I played rather violent games when I was younger. Well, to be honest, I didn't play them, but I was fascinated by the sight of my dad playing Medal of Honor: Underground and the like.

I didn't get my first 18-rated game until I was about 11 (my parents sort of gauged the amount of time it would take for me to be mature enough), which is fairly young, but, to be honest, I still find it somewhat worrying when I know there's a six-year-old with Live playing MW2 (It's someone who I vaguely know's brother)

I think the shit I watched as a little girl warped my mind; the end result is that I'm completely desensitized to violence. This was put to the test when I actually saw some people killed in a car accident. I had a bought of inappropriate laughter when the cars collided. I even slapped a nearby woman who was screaming her head off because she was "hysterical & overreacting."

So yeah, if I was to go off my own personal ecperience, I can only guess that violent games work just as well at desensitizing people to violence. It seems to...take away the realness of mortality & turn it into some kind of joke.

Bullshit!!!! Pure and utter Bullshit. Rising cases of ADD my fuckin ass. Guess what kids are naturally hyper. Guess what kids don't like sitting in a school all day having someone teach them crap they don't care about. Oh gee little Jimmy isn't paying attention quick get him on drugs and then we can blame video games and the media. It is amazing the human race survived this long. I wonder how our ancestors dealt with ADD.

How about we blame the law for our kids problems? How about we blame the fact that we are no longer allowed to give them the ass kickings they deserve for thier disrespectful behaviour. Oh yeah that would kinda fall away from the blaming media game and WE CAN'T FUCKING WELL HAVE THAT CAN WE?
I see it the same way as you do for ADD. Look at the large picture here and not your little agenda. My point is these problems are more frequent because kids are undisciplined. And I am not referring to spankings here neccessarily. I am talking about lack of guidance or even misguidance. Way to pull the wool over your own eyes and totally miss the entire point of the post. (Provided you could focus long enough to read it and follow it without your mind wandering from the topic.) You're seriously unable to draw any logical conclusion from any of that?
Were you even paying attention as you read that I said video games could logically play a role in it an not soley point the finger at the media? No? You also reponded in an unintelligent manner and disregarded any civility thus respect for the post in your demeanor. If you were serious with your post way to prove me right again. If your post was not dead serious way to grab a small fraction of my point and skew it to obscurity.

EDIT: Also note the violent undertones in your post. It's like pure gold. You didn't miss a single symptom I described in the post you call "bullshit".

He's the one playing violent video games, and yet YOU'RE the one who wants to beat up his parents? More proof that you shouldn't censor games if you can't censor real life.

As long as the kid isn't going around shooting people because he saw it on Call of Duty, then I have no issue.

Hell, I was playing fucking Unreal Tournament when I was 6, so I grew up around that kind of shit.

The kid said his favorite games were shooters. Big deal. Fuck, lighten up for a bit.
Exactly. I've been playing M games since I was 5. I wasn't warped by them.
The dead bodies under your bed would beg to differ.

OT: Big deal. I'm sure the kid will be fine.

Christ reading this thread has been depressing. For all those people who think it's okay for kids to play violent video games I'd point you to Albert Bandura's Bobo Doll study which was performed in 1961. That's right, you're thirty nine years behind the times. And then there are the people giving personal anecdotes about how violent video games didn't warp their minds at an early age because, you know, anecdotes are the best scientific evidence out there.

One, learn what the actual scientific results are; two, learn how science works.

No, thats not how it works, in games like GTA everyone can differentiate between reality and games, even with your supernanny science

I was nine when my parents gave my GTA:VC for a christmas present. Why? Because I understood the difference between reality and fiction. It had no negative outcome on me.So why should I judge that kid?

not including Grand theft auto of course where you can kidnap a women, rape her, kill her, murder her family, and then get away with it by hiding in an alley for about a minute or so.
What the FUCK? What version of GTA have you been playing? The only sex in the GTA games is with your date or hookers. You can't kidnap a person unless they are in a car that you stole while they were in it.And even if they don't run out when you steal the car, there's nothing that you can really do to them.
