This reminds me of this article I read a few weeks ago:

http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/05/facebook-rogue/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:%20wired/index%20(Wired:%20Index%203%20(Top%20Stories%202))&utm_content=Google%20International

Privacy on the internet is a joke. Don't put it online if you don't want it known.

I don't post status updates often - and if I did they would be of little importance and I only have a few random pictures of me on there, so not really a big deal.

Some people just don't realize that the internet is just as open and public as any city street. If you do embarrassing things people will notice. If you give out your info people will remember it.

That being said, the company really shouldn't be doing that. It's pretty clear they don't care about their users at all.

Apparently it only searches accounts set to public (I can't find anything I've posted) so you can easily stop it. But, like its been already said, you shouldn't put anything on Facebook that you don't want people to read anyway.

Yeah, ideally, the sign up page of facebook would have in big capitals...

WARNING: Anything and everything you ever put on here will be freely available to family, friends and enemies alike, as well as future sexual partners and employers.

The IT Crowd said it best however in the 'FriendFace' episode...

I have nothing worry about, because I don't put any incriminating on my facebook.

People think they're privacy is sooo important when they have useless shit to tell us anyways.

I use facebook as a way to show people what I want them to see. I don't put things on there I don't want them to see. Pretty simple. If you don't want people to know, keep it to yourself.

Why would I care if people can read my facebook? It's not like my posts include my bank details or anything.

Although I did hear that burglars check facebook to see when people are away and then rob them.

The things I say on facebook can be read by the public. I have no fear of my wheelings and dealings being disseminated amongst the masses.

God, imagine the horrors that could be loosed upon this earth if someone were to use the knowledge that I like Kevin Smith films for nefarious purposes.

Dude, have you ever heard of the privacy settings? Just change everything to 'Friends only' and then, obviously, only friends can see what you say.

I feel sorry about the bloke caught by his grandparents, but he was stupid enough to do so while they were around. Fucking hilarious though.

There's a reason I don't have a Facebook.
Who tells their friends that they were caught by their grandparents.

Seems like the guy deserved it anyway...

I only put shit on my profiles if it's something I'm comfortable knowing anyone can see. So, meh.

I have. I'm not fool. I meant that the public can read my posts, and I won't really care. Should have clarified.

My facebook....is entirely fake, and obviously so. Only REAL friends know who I am... also haven't linked it to the Escapist, you'll never know my alter-alter.....alter ego!

Well then, looks like I'll just have to watch what I post on Facebook. Gosh, you mean like I do already?

Seriously, you're posting on a fucking website, if you expect it to be private you've had one hell of a lobotomy. If you're on facebook saying "I fucked [insert name here] last night", without joking, then you deserve what you get.

Oh noes, now people will know I like Ace Ventura!
Quick, to the edit mobile and to change it to a list of pornographic films!

But yeah, hardly surprising. Plus it's kinda old news, the British papers 'covered' this a while back. And there was an article on this site about it, I think. May edit in if I can be bothered.
