The song is execrably bad, but that's not her fault. The people to blame are Ark Music Factory for writing and producing it, and her parents for paying them $2000 to make it.

I actually find her personality quite endearing, and the bullying and character assassination grossly unfair. The idea that she had anything to do with the song creatively is frankly ludicrous.
i think that's the biggest reason I hate her. She was handed a piece that she had nothing to do with making and didn't have a damn clue if it sucked ass or not and went with it, potentially losing her parents' money but ending up making the world froth with rage.

And no... being charitable does not cancel out a lack of talent.
That doesn't even make any sense. Having no talent isn't an unforgivable mark against someone, the vast majority of the human populace are untalented at most things save for a few select hobbies.

Giving to charity however, is a damn decent thing to do. So no, there's no "cancelling out" going on here. It far exceeds it.

Sure the song is pretty good and has a great tune, but this girl wouldn't even pass the initial auditions for american idol.
You're completely missing the point here. People love it because it's terrible. In fact you're the first person I've seen say it's a good song unironically.

That's kind of scary...

She's not an artist... she's an ENTREPENEUR!!!!!?

It all makes sense now. Soon she'll be a brand name.

I hate her song, but from what I understand that record label takes tweens who want to be pop stars and makes them music videos for a couple thousand. There are plenty of other terrible tween songs, I think Friday just got the flak of the assault.

I don't dislike Rebecca Black, I think she hasn't let the popularity of her song get to her head, and as far as I know, she's just another girl getting her 10 minutes of fame. I respect her for doing this.

I just hope she's smart about which charity she gives it to. I would hate to see it go into someone else's pocket. :)

I think you might be a bit confused. The question was....

...will this change anyone's opinions on her or her song?
My answer was no. I dislike the song, and I think she is a talentless hack. Doesnt matter if she donates every cent she ever makes to charity it wont make her any less of a talentless hack and It wont make the song any better.

It doesnt make any sense that my opinion could not be interpreted from my original statement.

The simple prefix of "and" does not automatically make it clear you're instead going back to the Op's original point, and even at that, he said her or her song.

That's you being idiosyncratic, and your original comment, as well as the one you just made still sound like you have a personal vendetta against her for having no talent. Which is just silly.

Song is shit, performer seems pretty chill and is willing to give money to those who need it. This is good. This is very good. I'm willing to deal with ignoring bad music if the existence of the bad music helps others in such a way.
Wikipedia:

After reading the harsh reviews of "Friday", Black said that "those hurtful comments really shocked me." Ark Music offered to take the video down from YouTube, but Black refused the offer, saying that she did not wish "to give the haters the satisfaction that they got me so bad I gave up."[31]
In response to criticism over the song's significant use of Auto-Tune, Black performed an acoustic version during an interview with ABC News. Later in the interview Black's mother, Kelly, stated that she was "angry and upset" after Black was brought to tears by comments such as "I hope you go cut [yourself] and die" and "'I hope you cut yourself, and I hope you'll get an eating disorder so you'll look pretty." Black said, however, that she soon was able to ignore such comments, and asked Bieber, her idol, to perform a duet with her. Although Bieber has not released an official announcement regarding the offer, he posted on Twitter "sunday comes after saturday? weird".

Brought to tears doesnt seem very chill.

Well, it's great that she donates to Japan. It's a good cause.

It's slightly distrurbing to me that people say hello to her at school, when they should be laughing in her face and insulting her terrible music.

If I was given a lot of money to rape kittens, it's still not okay even if I donate the money to charities... Just saying.

Well, she seems quite okay. Her song? Still atrocious. But she is okay.

It surprises me, however, that her song makes money.

Good for her. Yes, the song still sucks, they even started playing it on Radio 1 last night while I was driving, I sang along to every single word.

I have never hated her, because I don't know her. However, I dislike the song so, so much. But I must admit it is good that she is donating to a good cause.

Everybody got a laugh, and now some extra money's going to Japan. Doesn't sound so bad to me.

I'm curious if anyone else has watched the other videos posted by the same channel that posted Black's video. There's something about them that gives me the heeby jeebies. Like the girls aren't on stripper poles or anything, but they definitely feel more sexualized than they should be for 12-13 year olds - and it doesn't help that that same 30-something rapper is in every video. That dude gives me pedo-vibes.
