WTF??

When I read "new Spyro look" I thought maybe he'll look older, stand on two legs, develop some weird dragon muscles...anything would have been better than that monstrosity!

Well my childhood just got ruined.

OT: The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy was a good reboot.

Wasn't Nolan's Batman a decent reboot? About about the newest Hulk movie? Excellent reboot. Aside from that, I can't think of any other reboots worth mentioning. But those are the two that stick out most to me.

God I hope Spiderman and X-Men aren't as shitty as I am expecting them to be.

OT: Yeah... Reboot Spyro looks fucking stupid.

That there... that is not Spyro, and it never will be. That there is a purple gremlin. Played Spyro: Gateway to Glimmer today, and I do miss the old Spyro...

EDIT: OT: Well, what they made of the other, new Spyro games (A New Beginning etc.) was quite alright, and fun to play, in my mind. As for the key to making a good reboot... No idea, but perhaps keeping the elements that the audience as a whole loved the most?

That doesn't even come CLOSE to looking like Spyro. What in the holy names of Gygax and Arneson IS that thing?!? *looks at Captcha* "the tantutor", huh? That does look like a good name for whatever phracking creature that is!

Seriously...they broke the first rule of a reboot. "Stay true to the source material."

The new look does look a bit hideous, but it seems to me that if the new Spyro game will take a new route away from the original environment that the older games produced, then I think this new Spyro image is a step in the right direction. The old Spyro fit the old environment; colorful and whimsical, while I can picture this Spyro tearing open a can of whoop-ass all over a brand new setting. The backdrop looks very nice and I can't picture the old Spyro in this setting.

The amount of people complaining about their childhoods did surprise me though. Didn't know many people liked Spyro. I played too much N64 and arcade games when I was a kid.

I guess that's what happens to Spyro if you spend the whole game holding the "charge" button down like I did.
Hitting walls head first at 50mph makes you ugly... Dam...

Is that really the new design? Looks awful. When did he get hit in the face by a shovel?

Aaaanyway, I can't think of a single good reboot. I certainly don't have high hopes for Devil May Cry 5 either. That thing in the trailer is not Dante.
That's not a reboot, it's an origin when dante was in his teen years.

OT: Don't know if this counts, but I though Team Fortress 2 was a good reboot of the first one.

I'm not fond of the new Dante from the DMC reboot.
Also, i never did play Spyro, probably never will, so this doesn't really affect me.

You never know, he may not be full grown there, perhaps they will have him age. I don't think it is the end of the world or anything. I don't think it looks bad. Hell, I don't think spyro ever really looked 'good'. All these fanboys crying over the reboots is getting irritating. As an old school X-Com fan even I am waiting for that particular reboot to come out before I pass final judgement. Hell, I can even see the potential in it. If they were just going to do the same thing, why "reboot" it?

Well, that looks like utter shit. I don't think these developers even looked at a screenshot from the original trilogy before they started work on the models.

I don't know about you, but I'm going to stick with emulating the original PS1 trilogy on my Windows 7 box.

An example of bad reboot, DMC...now DMC: Origins or somesuch. Dante smokes, has black hair and is trapped somewhere. As if the other DMC didn't even matter.

I doubt any reboot is a good one.
This is a bit unfair. It isn't out yet. There could be a perfectly good reason for the new look, and he may even be back to normal by the end of the game. I'm not putting money on it, but still. If it can hold it's weight story-wise and keep Dante in his heyday of humor (DMC3 (and from what I've heard, DMC4) level), then it'll be a pretty good reboot in my opinion. Given the other games, I'm taking good gameplay as a given, because there's no hope if the screw that up.
