I've only seen one good reboot, and that was the Nolan Batman films. Game reboots never do well because the developer changes enough for it to be seen as shitting on a classic. And did Spyro really need a reboot?
I'd say Serious Sam HD, but not really sureIrridium said:Examples of good reboots? I don't know actually. I'm sure they're out there.
I've seen the trailer now too.Infernai said:While I'm waiting for story details on this new game, i will safely say that this redesign for dante is nothing short of horrible....I mean cmon, does he look in ANY way similiar to how he used to look, even in his young appearance? (DMC 3). Dante doesn't have red eyes, he doesn't have black hair, he doesn't smoke, and...his face just Doesn't look the same. I'm sorry, but i fail to see how this is dante. Even in the trailer he wasn't acting right: Dante is normally cocky and confident, but in the trailer he seemed more borderline psychotic. On the subject of gameplay i have this to say: If he gets Devil Trigger in this game without some damned good reason, i will be pissed.DSD12 said:Well since you didn't play the first Devil May Cry I could understand it would be a cool looking character but if you play the other games you will know that is the WORST character design for DanteEkit said:I saw the concept art...darth.pixie said:He will have white hair again, this I know. But it's from a different writer (the other one stepped out). It somewhat ignores all the other DMC and Dante just isn't Dante. I would honestly not complained about any story as long as he would have stayed himself but he just looked and acted odd. Gameplay is not the issue as much as ruining a character that I really liked. I will await to see what it's like but I'm not really confident about it.oreopizza47 said:This is a bit unfair. It isn't out yet. There could be a perfectly good reason for the new look, and he may even be back to normal by the end of the game. I'm not putting money on it, but still. If it can hold it's weight story-wise and keep Dante in his heyday of humor (DMC3 (and from what I've heard, DMC4) level), then it'll be a pretty good reboot in my opinion. Given the other games, I'm taking good gameplay as a given, because there's no hope if the screw that up.darth.pixie said:An example of bad reboot, DMC...now DMC: Origins or somesuch. Dante smokes, has black hair and is trapped somewhere. As if the other DMC didn't even matter.
I doubt any reboot is a good one.

...and I think he looks pretty cool. Although I have never played a Devil May Cry game so I have no idea if this change contradicts his character or something. (But it probably does, since so many people mentioned it)
Reboot or not, they have, from what i can tell, absolutely gutted and destroyed everything that made Dante a cool character.
I think you've got Ninja Theory confused with Team Ninja. Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden) made Other M, and Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword, Enslaved) is making DMC.Ekit said:I also noted that it's being developed by Ninja Theory, aren't those the ones that made Metroid: Other M? Have they done anything note worthy except universally panned reboots?![]()
To be fair, the story was done by the creator of the Metroid Series. He essentially rendered the Prime series non-canonical to tell that story that was supposed to be his crowning achievement. That is scary. Just making sure the blame goes to the right person(s).Ekit said:I've seen the trailer now too.Infernai said:While I'm waiting for story details on this new game, i will safely say that this redesign for dante is nothing short of horrible....I mean cmon, does he look in ANY way similiar to how he used to look, even in his young appearance? It reminds me of the Saw movies.

You and me both. That being said, I think it's an interesting idea though.JFuss said:Wow, Spyro looks just terrible.
Spyro the Dragon was the first game I ever owned on PS1 and I loved it, this is making me sadface.
