Didn't like the new Tomb Raider for a number of reasons, but I did quite like the new XCOM. A bit over-simplified perhaps, but the presentation was top notch and the games comparative simplicity didn't hurt the underlying satisfaction of building a team and using them to fight back the alien invasion.

Very good game, I'm eager to see what happens next with that series. Enemies Within was also a damned good addon to XCOM: Enemy Unknown so the devs clearly have a good idea of how to improve what they've got.

The XCom reboot because it actually made it playable in this day and age.

Now if only someone could reboot Dwarf Fortress...

I liked the new Tomb Raider as well. It just didn't feel very Tomb Raidery (most tombs and puzzles are optional in a tomb raider game?) and could easily have been a different title so I'm a bit conflicted about it but that might change in other games judging by that ending.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is one of my favourite games but I never played the original.

I don't like the PoP 2008 (well I like some aspects of it. I just don't like the overall game). I don't hate it because it's a reboot though I think that was unnecessary. Its different enough that could have just been its own thing and maybe said to be inspired by PoP. It's not resetting and retreading the plot with awful changes that miss what was good about it the first time, it has a completely different one. I guess they wanted to coattail off the others success. The PoP:SoT series is basically done so its not like reboot is likely to be a cause for another game in that series not being made. Although was PoP:SoT a reboot itself? I know its not the first game titled PoP.

There are probably others that I don't even know are reboots.

I have to agree with this sentiment. The problem with Burton's Batman was that it wasn't Batman. It was people dressed as Batman characters in a Tim Burton movie. The man understood Batman about as well as Jenny McCarthy understands vaccines.

Best analogy ever!

Yes! That's exactly it. It was "A Tim Burton Film" that just happened to feature characters who previously appeared in comics.

The only thing that would have made it MORE Burton would have been an appearance by Johnny Depp in a weird hat affecting a strange accent.

And what exactly would you say is the "proper" Batman then? A million different interpretations of this character exist currently between film, television and even various comic books, unless you're referring to the very first incarnation of the character in the 1930s as the definitive Batman you can't say any other version is more or less "correct" than any other.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" and the 2013 "Evil Dead" movie. I haven't watched "The Thing From Another World" so don't know how it compares to Carpenter's version, but I think the new Evil Dead is better (though not as innovative) than the original (but not better than Evil Dead 2 or 3). The 2011 "The Thing" sucks major balls though.

Michael Keaton was the Johhny Depp of the 80s/90s, as far as Tim Burton movies go.

I don't think this really counts as a reboot strictly speaking but I love the New Super Mario series. I had a lot of trouble with the NES games but I loved Mario World. I feel like the New Super Mario games are closer to Mario World than the NES games in terms of how forgivable they can be.

I liked X-Com: Enemy Unknown but I never played the original...same with Deus Ex Human Revolution but I don't think that was meant to be a reboot, especially considering it is (or was) known as Deus Ex 3...

While I've never played them (yet) I really look forward to playing the new Tomb Raider and Wolfenstein.

I adored DMC. Devil May Cry was great and I actually liked the new Dante. The gameplay was great and also was the story. I did love the Tomb Raider reboot too.

This quote really makes me regret ever bothering to play video games as a whole back then. If I knew this was the result, would of just focused on work/school fully and done something else. God forbid difficulty and punishing people who are bad. We certainly don't want that! Instead of playing the next Quake, Unreal Tournament, Ultima Online, or a real Street Fighter 3 sequel; we get CoD, Halo, Mario Bros 3D World I can't lose edition, and remakes that anyone past the age of 3 can beat.

I couldn't believe how in the newer mario's if someone dies a lot then the game makes them invincible or does the level for them until my gf showed me. That alone made me want to shoot myself and shoot the wii u I bought for her.

Yeah, I'll be unoriginal and say Tomb Raider. It's not a perfect game, but I enjoyed it.

I can't think of any other reboots I've played, barring the beginning of DMC. I don't know if I like it or not. I started playing it, didn't hate it, then got distracted by other games.

Obviously going to say XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but there's also Rise of the Triad. They're both excellent updates to games I couldn't really get into.

Agree on DmC. Combat was very well thought out. Not super challenging but almost puzzle like in how you needed to string together attacks to get past certain combinations of enemies.

But the number one re-imagining is of course ....

Metroid Prime!
I do, of course, hope you're kidding.

DmC - I really enjoyed this one.
Tomb Raider was a good game, but I prefer the old puzzle and platforming elements before the slaughter of countless enemies, any day.

I've been playing Tomb Raider 1 recently, and I can't help but feel like, if anything, combat is more often than not just an annoyance even in the first game.

Can't speak for 2 + 3 or the Last Revelation yet, as I understand the locales change and the puzzle focus slackens a bit (but I don't know); and I understand also that part of Lara's inital appeal was the gun totin' treasure hunter image. But just having to leap to a high spot and hold down Ctrl until a lion or a gorilla that's just running about is dead with unlimited pistol ammunition is...eh.

When it works, it works (like being chased by lions around the underground colusseum); but more often than not it's just awkward and annoying. Well, so far, in the first game.

NFSMW '12, even if it does not live to its predecessor name (feels more like a pedestrian Burnout) or it's single player mode is short and kinda broken (seriously, if you get the R35 early you might curb stomp the first 3-4 Most Wanted list members) or its broken police AI (cheating bastards) it's still a fun game.

Chalk up another vote for DMC: DMC here. I won't fault fans of the previous games for not liking it, as I'm sure there are a ton of technical reasons why it's a million billion times worse that the uninitiated like myself wouldn't understand. That said, I tried to get into the older titles and found them far too unwieldy to be enjoyable, whereas the new game manages to balance being easy to learn yet difficult to master. It's the kind of game that you catch yourself thinking about at work, dreaming up new tactics and combos to try out next time you play.

I especially enjoyed the Vergil's Downfall DLC, so much so that I wound up having kind of a hard time going back to the main story mode.
