The Valve complete pack is what you should get, but wait 'til it goes on sale.

You are doing it wrong.
Nothing wrong with playing a shooter with a gamepad... on a console. But PC FPS games are meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard. If you don't know how, learn. It's better that way.

Also, Windows XP? Why the hell are you still using XP? If you've got something that can run games well enough, then you need to get 7 pronto!
Cant agree more on the Windows 7 part, its been a blessing.
Even though Windows Vista worked GREAT for me 3-4 years. Dont ask me how...

THe xbox 360 controller is great, I bought it for emulators and future ported games. And I do find it enjoyable in FPS even though I have played with mousenkeys all my life.

OT: THeres lots of good FPSes out there, my tip is to go to steams store and check the bars to the right of the selected games storepage. THere you will see if a controller is supported, if it is all you have to do is plugin the controller and start the game for full controller experience. Fallout 3 is very relaxing with a controller IMO.

well sorry i didnt realise you would be so sensitive :) my xp has lasted me 8 years, and if it can still run recent games like Fallout:New Vegas then i suspect its going to last me a little while longer.

secondly: yes, i use a gamepad for some of my shooters. the more important question is do you have anything to say thats actually ON topic?

Team fortress 2 is now free to play I recommend that because

a)it's very well designed

b) has controls that ate gamepad friendly

C)IT's FREE WHAT ELSE COULD YOU ASK FOR?

Metro 2033. Excellent story with the most detailed graphics found anywhere.

metro 2033- a shooter with a bioshock-esk vibe with a hint of survival horror to it and a very interesting barter system to it (your good bullets are your money)
I'll add a third vote for metro 2033. Fantastic, haunting game.
Never finished it. FOR SHAME. The broken stealth and omniscient AI killed it for me, especially in the Third Reich =(

OT: If you liked Bioshock, the second one is a good shooter too. I've been playing Homefront to death lately, the multiplayer is rather good.

I found the stealth to be fine. That entire level is possible to get past without killing anyone!

Metro 2033 (haunting and dark atmosphere driven shooter), Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (intense tactical team based combat blending FPS and TPS) and CoD 4: MW (still the best storyline I've encountered in an FPS, but if you get it be prepared for all the flak you'll get for daring to own a CoD title).

The one bit I couldn't pass was a bit where, on top of a stairwell, the guard would walk past, and into the doorway. No matter what I did, hide, lure him, kill him silently etc. his buddies (or him) always got alerted and thrashed me... I spent hours on that one bit and never passed it. Better restart the chapter I guess, might be a glitch.

If you want to use your controller to it's full potential get a platformer or a fighting game. I'd recommend Super Meat Boy.

Half-Life 2. It goes so far beyond being a simple shooter, with the Gravity Gun to throw objects at enemies, fantastic environmental storytelling and portrayal of a dystopian society, and the 'Highway 17' section where you drive a dune buggy down the coast and make optional stops at houses just to find out what happened there. The Episodes are good too, although Episode One is really just more of the same.
