I recently purchased the book, The Lightning Thief. I was bored and i hadnt read a book in over a year or maybe two... I think it was when the last harry potter book came out... Anyways i used to read books a long time ago and lately video games aren't holding my interest like they used to so I feel like reading again.

Right now im itching to drive 30 mins to get the second in the percy jackson series. While probably have to drive further to get the third since the place close to me doesnt ever bother to keep anything in stock. -_-

Anyways im hoping the escapist can recommend me some good books to look into.

Books i've read that i remember:

Harry potter
Resident evil novels
Blood legacy the story of Ryan
In the forest at night (wish i could reread it again but cant find it or remember the author)

Thats all i can remember at the moment.

The DemonWar Saga by R.A.Salvatore

The first book in the series, The Demon Awakens, is still my favorite novel after all these years.

The Dark Tower books are pretty good if twisted.
And it sounds like you might like the Inheritance books too. (Eragon, Eldest, Brisngr, Saphira comes out in a year or two)

The 7(8) Artemis Fowl books.

Brilliant books and endlessly re-readable.

The Gears of War novels by Karen Traviss are a pretty good read. They've been keeping me quite immersed lately.

Expendable, by James Alan Gardner, an excellent science fiction adventure novel

A Canticle for Leibowitz, by Walter M. Miller, certainly a heavier novel but extremely well written

I just read The Red Pyramid and The Throne of Fire. I liked them a lot. They are from the same author as the Percy Jackson books and focus on Egyptian myth.

Well, it is more of a poem, but Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri is a good read in my mind.

But I would also recomend The Client if you can follow legal jargon.

This might be a little bit FOTM, but A Song of Ice and Fire series is really well done in my opinion. First book is called A Game of Thrones.

The Dresden Files by Jim butcher. They are about a wizard PI called Harry Dresden who fights evil. Has lots of action, humor but gets dark, gritty and serious in all the right places. Also it has real vampires in it. Not crappy, emo, twilight vampire but pure evil, bat like creatures in human form vampires as well as two other types of vampire, werewolves, warlocks (evil wizard corrupted by black magic), faeries (powerful magical being who regularly cause trouble normally resulting in giant magical fights) and they look human like, daemons, necromancers, fallen angles (not the same as demons) and a spirit that is trapped in a human skull called BOB, who is really funny and kind of a perv at the same time.

Also if you do finish the Percy Jackson books there is a new series out set in the same world but with mostly new characters. Personally I did not like the new characters all that much but the next one is back with Percy so maybe it will get better.

Just got The Psychopath Test in the mail last night. Really enjoying it.

It is non-fiction, about some guy who has serious anxiety problems (he even diagnosis himself with 14 different disorders using whatever that psychology book that is a standard across the world) who gets fascinated by the idea that it is possible that psychopaths control the world (ie business execs, governments, everything are controlled by psychopathic leaders because their affliction/gift allows them to take control).

Jim Butcher's the Dresden chronicles
First book is called Stormfront
Not only is the series funny and very well voiced, Dresden is the fucking man. He doesn't take shit even though he has to deal with the consequences later.
The first few books are great on their own, but book four is when probably the best and when you're hooked.

Hunger games series is okay, but you need to read the looking glass wars. Lewis Caroll basically lied about the whole thing and took bits and pieces to make the story of Alice in Wonderland. The Looking Glass Wars is the 'true' events that took place in wonderland. actiony and awesome.
