Haha, I thought I was the only person on the planet who had seen that cartoon.

Secondly, yes, you're already a cool Uncle with the theme park thing. But don't just think superficial events and places make you cool - I'm sure how you handle yourself and talk to them will matter more than where you bring them. :)

Just make sure he can talk to you. That he can tell you things he wouldn't tell his parents be open and always give him advise.

Well...i do make sure they get a little spoilt. hmm...well..they seem happy when i see them so i must be a cool uncle! ^_^
I cannot stress taking them shooting enough. It just strikes me as something an uncle would do. Unless you're not in America, which is probably even better for their well-being.

I kid, I kid. Don't point that army at me! :p
Actually, my uncle does tak me shooting. Hes a cop and he shows me alot of stuff and tells me how things work. Hes helping me get my firearm license. Also if i do well enough he said he'd going to buy me a Desert Eagle.50 .........My other uncle takes me campping and hiking and stuff like that. Since I live in Alberta its freakn sweet, since there is so much to do outside.

Talk to them about the things they should know about the opposite sex that their parent will lie and/or won't talk about.
I could give my nephew porn for his 13th birthday...lol
Or when i babysit let them stay up late and watch 18's and stuff. I think i can get this in the bag...
I was going to say give some porn but nowadays if he can't get his own porn there is something really wrong.

Well, I'm technically not an uncle but I've been buddies with my neighbor since we went to boot camp together and so I've been her twin daughters' "Unks" since they were born. I was the one who took them to the hospital when she went into labor as her craptacular boyfriend had just moved out of state because, and I quote, "fatherhood is just, like, sooo intense, man". Ugh.

I always treated the girls like they were people and not kids. No baby talk or "cause I'm the adult and I said so" arguments. Having done ten years in the US Navy, I can say that a lot of its leaders treat underlings like children so I've always tried to treat those who are under me (in terms of authority) the way I would like to be treated. It sounds strange to adults but it works with every kid I've ever met. Treat them with the same respect you think you yourself deserve.

Oh, and shooting. Definitely. I've always been a damn good shooter and I helped teach their mom during boot (it was how we became buds). She asked me to show them how and I discovered it was a great bonding experience. You learn a valuable skill, self-control, and not to mention it's just plain FUN! It's also great stress relief, some days the girls just didn't want to talk about things so I'd take them to the range...

BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!
(reloading)
Me: "Some thing bothering you, pumpkins?"
BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!BOOM!
(reloading)
Them: "We'll our stupid BFF Tisha said..."
Me: "Point the magnums back down range, please!"

Also, I give the same endorsement to martial arts as I do to shooting but with a note of caution. Kids tend to catch up with you in no time in the dojo. Which can make them cocky. Me and their mom took Karate together (she said if some perv was gonna manhandle her it might as well be some one she knows) so when the girls were old enough they came with us. Thing is, the twins both got to black belt while I was still at red (one rank below them) and then these two nineteen year olds got the bright idea to challenge me during the next training session...

Them: "Ah, come on, Unks! We'd spar all the time when we were little!"
Me: "I know how good you two are. I'd have to go full tilt and your mom would cut my throat if I did that. Besides, you wear bras now!"
Them: "We're BLACK BELTS, Unks! You could beat one of us NOT both. We just want to prove that we can take care of ourselves!"
Me: "Those black belts tied on you ain't good enough? Fine, but I warned you."
BAM!BAM!BAM!BAM!CRUNCH!CRUNCH!
Me: "Forgot Unks had gone through the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, didn't you?"
Them: "Mom's gonna cut your throat when she sees these bruises!"
Me: "Ah, hell!"

Seriously, if I hadn't fought dirty and used MCMAP those two would have used my kidneys for dice! So just keep that in mind if you teach them Karate or what have you!

Buy him a car. That'll do it. That or candy, lots of candy. Candy tends to be cheaper, too.

I have no idea what makes an uncle cool. All of my uncles are old and uncool.

Apart from Uncle Gareth who's annoying.
