I recently had a poll on here asking which fallout dlc i should play next. Dead money or old world blues. Upon recommendation I played dead money and all i can say is FUCKING HELL!!

I cannot remember playing a game this frustrating. I can't even count how many times my characters head exploded or i hit a bear trap. SERIOUSLY HOW MANY BEAR TRAPS CAN BE IN ONE AREA!!! Oh and lets not get started on that red fog Even with a TEN endurance. I'm just happy i had that implant for health regen. Oh and the layouts for the villas were so confusing and it all looked the same. I have never been more disoriented by level design.

But, I can't say I didn't have fun with all the characters, Dean Domino, Dog/God, and Christine. Each character was interesting and I loved each of their stories. This is the ending i got :D
Overall I'm happy I played this DLC. I walked out of that casino with 19669 pre-war money and 37 bars of gold :p(Which took two hours of help from youtube)

So what Games/DLC have you found to be a pain in the ass but once completed you felt was worth it?

Seriously mods your capthca fails for no reason i'm doing it right.

Uncharted 2. There were at least 2 scenes that radically upped the difficulty ridiculously. At this time (and it's almost over) it gets 2nd best game of gen 7 from me.

Finished Batman: Arkham Asylum recently on normal. Beat it twice on easy with my PS3, but this was the first time on PC.
Anyways, on my PS3 I couldn't beat normal due to some tougher fights near the end. Had the same issues on the PC and was frustrated as fuck. During the final boss I was one click from beating him, without exaggeration, when a thug came from nowhere, slapped me in the back and killed me. Screamed a bit at the PC and turned off the game. Next time I tried it I beat it without a sweat.
Felt good, man.

Freelancer. I first played it over a decade ago and kept being killed in the difficult missions like the one in the secret facility past a radioactive minefield in Rheinland. Zone 21 was also a big source of frustration. Once I finally managed to manipulate the Corsairs into selling me one of their Titans, however, all my worries were gone. That thing had a slow turning speed, but it could withstand the greatest amount of punishment. I remember nearly crapping myself when I first came up against one, way out of safe space and on the wrong side of town.

EDIT: Damn it, didn't read the title properly. It would have to be Fallout: New Vegas, then. I was put off it for a long time by the baffling decision to enforce mouse smoothing, as well as the numerous bugs. Once I modded all of that nonsensical infuriation out of the game, though, it was great fun.

Monster Hunter 3 it is. *Goes into Monster Hunter mode where most things I say won't make sense to people who hasn't played it*

I wanted to upgrade a hammer and to get it I would need some stuff from a monster called Abyssal Lagiacrus and that's supposed to be the final boss of the online portion of the game. To fully upgrade my hammer I needed some common stuff from that one and one really fucking rare thing (2% chance of dropping that). I actually managed to get that on my second try which was grand, but I also needed a lagiacrus mantle which also has a 2% drop rate from a the standard lagiacrus. So I went out to fight an ivory lagiacrus and the bullshit was all over. He stunned me early in the fight and while I was unable to move he rammed into me and killed me. Then I was healed right after I died. Then while fighting it I also encountered a monster called Zinogre which is really fast and aggressive. I ended up dying my 3 times and failing the quest. So I kept at it and on my second try with a few incidents of infuriating bullshit I managed to beat it and I got my mantle. Now I have an awesome thunder hammer called nether jarngrolnir to use when I'm fighting the giant stygian zinogre (it really is a giant).

All in all, I had so much luck, but still the fights themselves were infuriating.

Spec Ops is probably the most recent game that did this for me. It sounds like it may have been a deliberate choice by the developers for good reasons but the gameplay (particularly shooting mechanics) bugged the hell out of me, made worse by the fact that I habitually choose the toughest ossible difficulty possible on my first playthrough. If people hadn't gone on and on about how "good" the ending is I doubt I would have ever have finished it as there were a couple of points in the game where I was so furious that I ended up just turning it off.

I've got to admit it was worth it for that ending though, the kind of story that sticks with you for ages.

Probably Psychonauts. That bloody meat circus... a man can only play through a level so many times before he leaves some of his sanity behind. I got through it eventually though. Then the game crashed.

A less broken example would probably be Kingdom Hearts. Those games had some brutal difficulty curves, but I loved it so much that I never considered stopping.

Bioshock Infinite for me. I thought it was going pretty well until
the part where Lady Comstock gets resurrected. After all, who doesn't enjoy fighting endlessly respawning enemies as your own resources slowly dwindle? In the fight in the bank, I had to resort to spamming Return to Sender, then running back to the Dollar Bill machine to restock salts over and over. not a very fun boss fight.
Fortunately, once it was over, I can't say I had any grievance with the rest of the game.

Nightmare difficulty on Dragon Age: Origins. So incredibly difficult, but I got a lot of satisfaction out of finally beating it.

The first duel in the Revenge campaign from Magic 2014 is really stupidly unfair, I'm convinced at this point that its just a cheep attempt by the developers to make you buy more cards. First dozen turns the AI just exiles every single card you play and then crushed you with multiple 5/5 flying angels. Haven't actually gotten by it, so no idea if it is satisfying. (Anyone who has beaten Sigismund in the Revenge campaign I would be interested to know how you did it if you can remember)

The Harvester from Dragon age Origins on Nightmare difficulty was also incredible difficult, boss was almost entirely luck based on what kind of skeletons spawned. Took me a couple of days to get by him and was VERY satisfying once that fat zombie was dead

I have been on a 100% achievement kick recently so playing through some good games with intent to do something stupid and repetitive has mainly caused rage. However beating the good games still feels good, I went through Spec Ops on FUBAR difficulty and it was infuriating, especially the crappy scripted part where you have to run through helicopter fire, on FUBAR there is a strict path you must take so the helicopter puts you into the grey screen state of damage but wont actually kill you and it turns out that path isn't always reliable, but beating the game always makes you feel good/bad about yourself.

Bioshock 2 is another, I went thru the story for new Steam achieves and enjoyed it, didn't care for getting level 50 for multiplayer achievement, they didn't patch the issues from GFWL when converting it to Steamworks so lots of issues kept me from enjoying it. And in the same vain, replaying Arkham Asylum was fun until I went after those stupid Challenge mode achievements where you have to basically kill everyone with a single combo and not get hit to get the gold medal, and then repeat that process 5 more times for each different map.

Still got Arkham City to go, but I wont even bother going for the Challenges because there are like 200+ medals you have to get for EACH CHARACTER and I don't think I have the sanity to play through a crappy DLC level set as Batman, Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman for a crappy achievement.

Looking forward to running thru Costume Quest, plan on doing that tonight thanks to Steam's Halloween sale and I just finished Skullgirls achievements and it was fun in the end knowing I had become significantly better at fighting games but completing the stupid 6 move combos for the tutorial achievement made me forget to have dinner and enjoy a nice headache for my troubles.

Shin megami tensei 3: Nocturne. Holy shit that game was frustrating! World navigation, level design, fucking puzzles that were interrupted again and again by random encounters and that god damned Amala labyrinth that I've decided to complete in one playthrough. Oh yeah, and Lucifer can go fuck himself! But, at the same time battle system was oh so enjoyable and rewarding and fusing and discovering new demons was awesome! And that true demon ending... So badass.
