I'm going on a week and a half trip or so (from California) to London and Paris, I also just got a new laptop. So, I've been looking about a whole list of movie to get for my long flight. I've already got a good, but I want some good documentries to go along with all the other movies.

So, Please recommend some good documentries.
I've already seen: Religuous, Super Size Me, The Penn and Teller series, Super High Me, Murder Ball, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Grizzly Man, and Hoop Dreams

You might want to see a few Micheal Moore films. He may be controversial but he's entertaining.

Also I recommend Stranded [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1157720/] or Man on Wire. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1155592/]

Check out children underground. Not easy to stomach though.

If you want something in the vein of Religulous check out Marjoe.

An obvious one: Planet Earth, Blue planet and Life.

Best documentaries on the space race: When we Left Earth.

And for Just plain beautiful: Microcosmos.

Hope I helped!

I don't watch documentaries often, but Man on Wire was very entertaining.

Anything by Werner Herzog.

You've already seen Grizzly Man, so you should be fairly familiar with him. But I don't think it's his best work.

I recommend Encounters at the End of the World.

Encounters at the End of the World is my favorite documentary. Herzog takes his camera crew to study the life of the people and animals of the Antarctica, as well as admiring the stunningly beautiful scenery. What makes it a great film is how deep of a soul Antarctica has, and how Herzog shows this. The people living there have all had amazing lives filled with adventure. Even the bus driver has been around half the world! And did I mention that it's a fucking beautiful place? It's fucking beautiful.

You'd do yourself a favor by watching it

If you're into military history, I'd suggest Battlefield. It's hands-down the best World War II documentary series that I've ever seen. Also, The Civil War by Ken Burns is a classic.

There's also The Great War, a superb WWI documentary by the BBC made back in 1964. All DVD releases have been region 2 encoded however, making it incompatible with most American players.

Man on Wire [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1155592/]: An interesting documentary about Philippe Petit's stunt of crossing a high-wire connected to both of the Twin Towers.
Woodstock [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066580/]: Tons of footage of the concert, not so much a documentary but a concert film along with genuine footage of the events occuring around it with interviews of the people that were there. Also be wary of the running time, as it exceeds 3 hours >.>.
When We Left Earth [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233514/]: More of a mini-series on the Discovery Channel about the Apollo missions, but it was quite amazing.

As a student of international relations, I have watched and enjoyed 'The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara' [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fog_of_War]. The documentary features a long interview with Robert S. McNamara (as you might have guessed from the title) about his life. Through his career, McNamara has been right in the eye of the hurricane during several, pivotal events throughout the 20th century such as WWII, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. The documentary tries to deal with subjects that should be familiar to any student of either international relations or foreign policy: The reason and morality of war, political actors ability to regocnize each other's motives etc.

These are tough issues that may provoke emotional responses from some people. However, if approached with an open mind and a genuine curiosity for the subject, there is definitely both insight and perspective to be found in the life experiences of Robert S McNamara.

If Thirteen Days [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteen_Days_(film)] with Kevin Costner is a movie favourite of yours, you might want to check out 'Fog of War'.

I remember seeing one that followed the journey of a guy trying to beat Billy Mitchell's Donkey Kong world record. You should see that!

Chris Rock did a really fun and surprisingly educational documentary called Good Hair. It's about how black people do there hair differently and how it's a big part of their lives. It's very fun, doesn't beat you over the head with it's message, and the stuff you learn is actually very interesting.

Michael Moore films are good. You might also want to watch Home, Earthlings, Who killed The Electric Car? and The World According To Monsanto.

"The Aristocrats" is a good one.

Essentially it is one joke, repeated over and over, by different comedians, and stories about the joke, but I thought it was very interesting and funny.

Most Michael Moore Docs are good.
I found Bill Maher's religulous pretty entertaining.
Also, depending on if you enjoy heavy metal music or rush, Sam Dunn's Documentary's are great

Confessions of a Superhero is crazy good. It's about the people who walk up and down Hollywood Boulevard dressed as superheroes and movie characters and take pictures with them for a living. It's a really revealing look at people who we normally wouldn't even think about. I can't suggest it highly enough. Not only is it my favorite documentary, it's one of my all time favorite films period.
