Recomend some alternate music. I'm really sick of generic clones and mainstream music. I like rock and metal mostly but i will listen to almost anything. Just recomend somthing completely different. It can be A-tonal, experimental or instrumental or anything.

If you haven't heard any of these, some of my favorites are:

'The Cure' ('Disintegration' is one of the best albums of all time IMO)

'They Might be Giants' are always fun

'Mike Oldfield' - Tubular Bells (a very strange instrumental opera type album, hard to describe but awesome! You might recognize the bell melody from 'The Exorcist')

Go with Radio head. They're still alt (surprisingly) all this time later.

... Though really, we would need to kno whats popular where you live. Muse is supposed to be alt, but they're heard alot here, so no one thinks of them as alt. However, we dont really ever hear Eric Clapton on the radio except a few times a year, so he's alt.

...

Could also listen to some of the lesser known stuff by the "mainstream". its rather surprising how different stuff can be when its not ont eh radio.

I like Dire Straits. In particular, Fade to Black is a favourite of mine.

And now for something completely different.

Franz Ferdinand, and Phoenix are dangerously underrated. At least where I live.
You should check them out if you haven't already. Also Does It Offend You, Yeah? They're not bad. Catchy beats but they might land more in the electronica genre.

Amon Tobin, without question. He did the soundtracks to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and part of inFAMOUS, but his solo stuff is really good too.

This one is my favorite, but most of his stuff is jazzier

They have a really indentifiable sound.
Nice one on Enter Shikari.

Whenever someone asks me to recommend them music all I'll reply with is, And So I Watch You From Afar. The beauty about they're tunes is you don't have to be into metal, rock, or even alternative to dig them, its simply kick ass music. I'd recommend their track, Don't Waste Time Doing Things You Hate

you would honestly probably be best off if you looked into local music. it's a lot easier to be original when you don't have a record deal.

I've probably recommended some of these before, but here you go anyway.

I would recommend checking out the rest of Autechre's music as well. Each album is pretty different, and they're almost always fantastic.

tool if you like it when songs are about something,
I'd suggest starting with the following songs

sober
schism
and stinkfist

all of these song are a good entry point into the being a tool fan.

and if you prefer something more light hearted and foreign, you kan always try the norwegian sextet

kaizers orchesrta

good songs to begin with are

maestro (master)
processen (the process)
and diamant til kol (dimonds to coal)
