The Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike.

Re-released as "Thirst", I believe. Great series, really the only fiction I've enjoyed.

You might not count it as a book, more a graphic novel, but I recommend Watchmen. As much depth as a best selling novel, amazingly relatable characters, and it is very clever. Probably my favourite book ever, and I don't care how sad that sounds.

1984 by George Orwell.
If you haven't already read it, you should really try it.

If you're into fantasy, the A Game of Thrones series by George R.R. Martin. Phenomenal books.

The edge chronicles. Every person I recommend them too, loves them. Its basically like star wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Alice in wonderland all in one. Their is about 9 books in the trilogy.

The Percy Jackson books are also fantastic. I didn't see the movie but I assume it was trash and you should read the books. NOW.

Classics worth reading:
The Inferno by Dante
Paradise Lost by Milton

For general fiction i thoroughly recommend the Dexter novels by Jeff Lindsay

Definitely World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide. Both are zombie books by Max Brooks (rhyme not intended), but each one takes a completely different approach to zombies. World War Z is particularly good, one of my favorite books. Watchmen is great, and it's take on the superhero genre is just as refreshing as World War Z's take on zombies.

As far as fantasy goes, I haven't read much. I do enjoy the Inheritance series (Eragon, Can't Remember the Second Book's Name, Brisingr, and a 4th one is on the way). The second book wasn't anything great, but the first was very good and I loved the third.

If you don't visit the websites, then the book versions of The Darwin Awards and Stuff White People Like are very funny, particularly The Darwin Awards.

This is somewhat off-topic, but what is the rule for book titles? Are you supposed to put quotations around them?

Also consider: 1984, Lord of the Flies, and the Halo novels (particularly those written by Eric Nylund, the best of them being Fall of Reach). Regardless of your opinion of the story in the Halo videogames, the books are excellent, and again, Fall of Reach is especially good.

Finally, I remember greatly enjoying The House of the Scorpion when I was maybe 11 or 12, but I can not be certain it would hold up if I read it today. It may still be worth a look though.

If you can find it, definitely J.A. Kerley's In The Blood.

In fact, any of his books from the Carson Ryder series. They're mature, and just an amazing read.

There are other people in the world who know of this incredible book? Oh hallelujah!

This was originally going to be my suggestion, but since it has been taken I'll add a couple of series I think you might enjoy.

The Song of the Lioness, a very good series about a woman who manages to become a knight by posing as her brother.

The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, a story set in the stone age and follows a child named Torak who learns he has a mysterious gift and is hunted for it because others want his power.

If your into fantasy, childrens books, try the "Edge Chronicles". Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell are the 2 best things to ever happen to literature, at least this decade. Seriously, very good books that never skip on the content just because its aimed at kids. Quite abit of death and tradegy.

1984 by george Orwell is excellent.

if you want nonfiction books, I recommend Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan or The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.
