Etrian Odyssey 2, Etrian Odyssey 3. Awesome classic Rogue-like RPG with an emphasis on dungeon-crawling and map making. (EO1 was broken in terms of balance, which was fixed in EO2. And, EO3 uses a whole different class system.)

Dark spire was sweet also.

hmm, maybe some dragon quest games? Some of those are good fun ^_^

The World Ends With You
Rocket Slime: I want to be the Hero
Any one of the Prof Layton games
Bowser's Inside Story
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Also, I would reccomend 9 People, 9 Hours, 9 doors, if you can find it for a decent price, which can be difficult since not many copies were made.

The only thing I can think of right now is Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, which I regard as the best in the series.

all three of the castlevania games, just rent the first and second spectrobes game just because of the surprising jump up in quality, elite beat agents is also a great choice, mario kart, advance wars (rent both before buying as they are surprisingly different in the way they play) and of course pokemon black/white 2 when it comes out as every pokemon game is just fun to play.

every pokemon game is in some ways a improvement over the last, with the only major advantage that gold and silver have is that they let you back across the previous region which was cool but because the way it was paced meant it was still the same length as the other pokemon games. This resulted in for the most part only the illusion of a bigger game. Though soul silver and heart gold are the only once with genuinely fun mini games.

I would definately reccomend Final Fantasy Tactics: A2 as well! One of the best SRPG's I have played... I would also reccomend as an ARPG Disgaea, as that is also awesome! (Although it is quite rare to find, for some reason...)

I would also get Drawn to Life... you can get it with its sequel on one cartridge now. It is actually damn fun, and with a bit of patience and imagination you can actually have a great time with it!
I am currently playing as Darth Vader, with a lightsaber, and an AK-47... because why not?

Finally I would reccomend Puzzle Quest... it is a port, but I think it is done well for the DS... it is a great mix of puzzle and RPG, and can be challenging in places! It has quite a bit of strategy for a game based on luck, and has various other puxxles and modes to keep the variety...!

I think I'm up to this challenge! In no particular order...

Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (if you're feeling nostalgic)
New Super Mario Bros DS (same as above)
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (I haven't tried the other two on the DS)
Rythem Heaven something or other...It's a series of mini-games set to awesome music
Wario Ware something or other...same as above only less musically inclined

1) Professor Layton

2) Phoenix Wright (don't forget about Apollo Justice BUT ONLY AFTER you beat trials and tribulations)

3) Ghost Trick

4) Hotel Dusk

5) Kingdom Hearts RE:Coded is nice as well.

Advance Wars
The World Ends With You
Okamiden
Devil Survivor (any you can get your hands on)

Don't get Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, it is teh suxorz (which makes me sad since I love Fire Emblem ;_;)
If you are potentially eyeballing a 3DS, wait another 6 months for more games to come out and more peripherals to make the awkward position of the thumbstick, less awkward.

True, but it's these things that make me think that HG/SS is the best of the series. I love (most) of the mini games, I love how there's two regions to explore, the story, the characters, being able to make PokeBalls, hell, I even love it's menu!

There's also my nostalgia for the original and my love of my starter that helps.

Radiant Historia
The World Ends With You
Ghost Trick
9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (A.K.A. 999)
Elite Beat Agents

Those are all really good games of various genres. There are more of course, but the ones listed are the ones that come immediately to mind.

Kirby Squeak Squad was good.
Professor Layton
Yu-Gi-Oh GX Spirit caller was fun even though I never really liked Yu-Gi-Oh. You might need a walkthrough though. The game is confusing to progress in.

1: The World Ends With You
2: Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
3: Castlevania Dawn Of Sorrow
4: Castlevania Order Of Ecclesia
5: Retro Game Challenge

As you can tell I love Castlevania, not a list of variety but rather games I find myself capable of beating numerous times without getting bored.

Chinatown Wars is probably the best thing R* has made this generation.

I also liked Trauma Center.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. To anyone who really wants a good Super Smash Bros experience on the DS or is just a big fan of animoo in general, I say you should pick up Jump! Ultimate Stars. As long as you don't mind keeping a FAQ open for the missions and stuff, it's a GREAT game. I mean come on what other game lets you have a team consisting of Goku, Bobobo, and Luffy fighting a team consisting of Yoh Asakura, Yusuke Urameshi, and Kenshin duke it out? I'm not a fan of animoo, but this is really the SSB game the DS deserves. I mean, if you're a fan of ANY of the 44 different series represented in the game, you'll probably enjoy it.

The World Ends With You
James Pattersons Womens Murder Club (only get that one if you can find it really cheap, it's probably only got about 3-4 hours of play time)
Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Super Mario 64 DS
Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Okamiden
