So ive recently finished the percy jackson books which i liked quite alot before that i read the death, city watch, and rincewind series of discworld novels. I quite like books with foreshadowing in and preferably not stupid villans or heros. Deconstructions are ok so long as the authour doesnt spend the entire book trying to make his point to the detriment of chacter development or plot

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare is really good. Also, The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins is incredible.

I'd recommend the Tiffany Aching Discworld novels. They're marketed as children/teenager books, but anybody can read them. And I dare you to not love the Nac Mac Feegle.

hands down, George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. friggin' brilliant, though quite dark. however, despite being dark, i didn't find them oppressive or heavy (in a negative way, that is).

if you want something a little lighter, i'd recommend Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy.

also, is the Artemis Fowl series actually good? i've heard good things, but the guy who wrote those also wrote a piece of fanfic garbage as "The Final Installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide series". that book was sooooooo bad it makes me wonder how good his other books could be.

Artemis Fowl -- good book for all ages, most steps made by both sides are extremely thought out, imaginative.
Oooh, I'd forgotten about the Artemis Fowl books! These, definitely.

And the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve are also awesome.

Honestly, I recommend the Redwall series.

Sure, they all follow the same basic formula. But they're well written and involving.

And I dare you to read about one of the feasts before lunch. You will go insane with hunger.

Wheel of time - 13 books - not finished
Mistborn - 3 books - finished
Warbreaker 1 book
A Song of ice and fire - 4 books - not finished

I liked all of these, am considering to start on the sword of truth series.
also, i took some time to read some warhammer 40K books and found the The Ciaphas Cain series to be a great read.

I believe Riordan has published the first book in his next Olympian series, so you might want to check that out too.

As for series:
The Ender Series
Artemis Fowl series
Redwall series
Chronicles of Prydain
And anything by Kurt Vonnegut.

Another suggest book thread, another chance for me to suggest "Sword of Truth" the greatest book series I've ever read. If percy jackson was your style, then you will probably greatly enjoy the ranger's apprentice series, they have a similar feel in the writing style. Inheritance and "Wheel of Time" are also great reads. So is "Night Angel" so long as you don't mind a bit of a depressing ending.

Artemis Fowl. You'd be surprised at how well written it is for a series about Faries and Irish boy geniuses.

The Perfect Dark novels & comic series. They're kind of hard to come by, but they're superbly written. They're well worth the effort to track down.

The Discworld books are the half-brick through the stain glass window of modern literature. They are brilliant!

The Sword of Truth series is brilliant, but it has a very harsh take on the fantasy genre. Definitely worth reading if you want to get emotionally invested in the characters.

CIAPHIS CAIN HERO OF THE IMPERIUM

A great book with a hilarious and fresh twist to the fatalistic and depressing Warhammer 40k series. Not saying that I dislike 40k it's just that this series is very well written.

the John Wells series by Alex Berenson for realistic fiction
contains 4 soon to be 5 books starting with The Faithful Spy

the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins for a futuristic fiction
contains 3 books starting with The Hunger Games

and Graceling/Fire they are companion books both written by Kristin Cashore for pure fantasy
read Graceling before Fire

all three series are great but The Hunger Games are tailored towards a younger audience
