Recommend a good Anime?

Running anime? As in anime that is airing in Japan right now?

If so, then Baka to Test, Durarara!, Sora no Woto, Kimi no Todoke, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood are all great current series.

I dont know, but I watched Soul Eater and Darker than Black. My friend watched Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. and we both watched Deathnote. So based on that, then I would suggest Bleach. My friend and I seem to have similar interests as you, and we both enjoyed Bleach. Also, its quite similar to Soul Eater (my opinion) so if you like that show then you'll probably enjoy Bleach.

Oh! and its still running (though a lot of episodes now a days are fillers...)

If you can stomach them (and there's a lot to stomach!), I'd recommend both Elfen Lied and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni/kai. They're not ongoing though, and Higurashi no Naku Koro kai doesn't have an english dub/DVD release yet.

Also the Slayers series for that vintage fantasy slapstick feeling. It's recently been rebooted, so I guess its a running series.

But for you, look at Studio Gainax. Specifically Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Prepare for mood whiplash if you watch them all back to back.
