There is a game on the PS2 called Rule of Rose which is pretty damn scary, or at the very least creepy as hell.

The PS2 and Xbox Original had a horror game which flew under the collective radar:

This game followed the lives of 5 high school students. One of their number didn't come home from Basketball practice one evening so his 4 friends go to their high school to see what's up. What they find is HORROR!!

Obscure was actually quite ahead of its time in certain areas. For one, Obscure had 5 playable characters who could be switched out in safe-rooms. The game also featured 2-player co-op. Another feature some of you may recognize is the fact that in order to do damage to your foes, you must bathe them in light. Since the game takes place in an American High School, staring the students who attend said school, nobody mentions the works of Stephen King either.

The game wasn't very well received but I beat it and loved it. The way the game works, you can have player characters die and continue on, similar to Heavy Rain. Hell *spoiler you probably won't care about* I ended the game with all 5 player characters dead. Meaning the final boss was dead but so were all of my player characters. The ending wasn't half bad either...I think...I don't remember disliking the ending anyway.

This is a good one, and I'm glad to hear someone else mentioned it, more wierd than scary, but definatly interesting, and very surreal. :)

to the OP:

To be honest I find good horror games to be pretty rare, I think it's a general lack of guts in the industry. The best ones being kind of dated.

Good Old Games just got "Realms Of The Haunting" which is very dated, but a decent horror game. While basically impossible to run on current machines and also very dated I also recommend "Legacy: Realm Of Terror", and of course "Clive Barker's Undying" (not to be confused with Jericho which was just so-so).

I keep hoping we'll see a major rush of good horror games at some point, but I'm not holding my breath.
