Thanks for reminding me of Age of empire, I'm trying to find a place where I can buy a digital copy.

In the end, I think i'll for now i'll buy warcraft 3, and world in conflict. And later pick up total war.

Those are my predictions, as i've yet to try the demos.

Cultures 2: The Gates of Asgard.

An RTS of sorts, with some Sims-esque elements as well. It's strangely fun.
Also I desperately hope one day to find another person who liked it...

World in Conflict is very unique and on a good rig looks crazy good.

Hearts of Iron 2 is pretty good if your into a really time-consuming, in-depth, strategical(as opposed to tactical) strategy game. I figure it would be considered a RTS even though you can pause it offline, not too sure about online. It's an old WWII strategy game but if you like it you'll LIKE it.

Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming. I was mainly looking for a game that required you to gather minerals, etc as age of empires does.

StarCraft
WarCraft 3
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War I & II (extremely different games, but both are quite good)
Company of Heroes
Napoleon: Total War (I've never been big on the Total War games, but the people I know who like them adore them)

Looking to find a good Real time strategy game, can't manage to find one. I'd like it to have online play (with Cooperative play between strangers), and well, that's about it.

Any suggestions?
I'd suggest Warcraft 3 and WC3 The Frozen Throne. That or Starcraft...Great RTSes that shouldn't need explaining...Except that the matchmaking system is kind of...meh...Well hope you have fun if you don't have these games (Though you probably do...Damn.)

Ohh ooh AoM (Age of Mythology) or Rise of Nations are also good RTSes, AoM has some fun unit myths/explanations from history and such which are fun to read and I for one loved the game, Rise of Nations is a great game until the end when people have all the upgrades. Hm.

I like Supreme Commander a lot more than the first, way more fast paced and I love the research tree over tech tiers.

Company of Heroes is my favorite RTS of all time, so that's what I recommend!
Why not try it out?

To answers questions, I don't own WC3, own Starcraft, but it doesn't work on my machine for some reason.
As for rig specs, I should be able to run most games:
Intel Q5550 2.83 GHZ Quad core,
4GB of ram
running vista,
with two cross fire cards that I can't be bothered to get specific details on.

As for Age of empire, I was lucky enough to find my disc from over a decade ago.
